Eleven years into this job and this was a first for me...The operator of a MV stop I had actually threw the citation I issued him (moments earlier) out the window while driving away.
I know what you are thinking ...so was I, but with all things considered, and the details of this incident purposefully withheld here, I resolved myself to issuing an additional (criminal) summons to the subject for the following charge: Littering Trash from a MV (c. 270 / s. 16-E). (and yes, he was allowed to retain all of the teeth in his head on this particular day).
Honestly folks, aside from training scenarios, has anyone been lucky enough on the road to experience this blood pressure raising event in their careers? If so, how did you deal with it, that is, if you care to tell?

Had a similar one as that Maine Trooper incident with the dude in the pu truck, only with a cabbie.

Looked like there was a tornado inside the cab after I cited him.

Then he got out and started beating the shit outta his cab, ripped off side view mirrors kicking and punching it.

Turns out he was a week away from suspended non renewable due to surchargeable accidents and moving violations.

Guess this additional cite didn't help matters much.

Just kinda sat there and watched until he drove off.

My BP was fine,as a matter of fact I think he made me cruise through the rest of my month with a smile.

I've had it happen several times. Doesn't bother me a bit 'cause that just means that that ticket is gonna go to warrant and he'll just end up spending a few days in jail instead of just paying a fine. And that's fine with me!

I hope you kept the citation he threw out the window as evidence of the littering. That way he will really be happy in 20 days when he gets suspended for payment default.

Yeah, this guy almost made the team, but I let the power of the pen take care of business. He is on probation too, so I had a good talk with his Probation Officer, and a Surrender Hearing has been scheduled. Couldn't find the ticket when I went back to where he threw it out (rained like a bastard right afterwards), but judging by the fact that HIS MOTHER came by the station looking for a copy of it, (told to go through RMV), my bet is that he doesn't have it either. Can't wait for the hearing date!

I had an incident years ago with a parking ticket. After he ripped it and threw it on the ground, I ignored him and went back and wrote a second ticket and placed it back on his windshield.

He angrily asked what was going on and my reply was simple. "If you don't mind can you continue to rip up these tickets because I only have to issue 5 more for my quota."

It took the steam right out of him.

You did the right thing. Eventually we always win the trick is to be patient. However I really like the first emotion of tearing him out of the car and kicking the shit out of him. Remember if you do!, becareful of the cameras lol.

If you get an inkling that the lemming is going to be an a$$hole, remember to take your sweet time writing the ticket...you want to max his BP prior to issuing the gig: one can always hope for a CVA ! "...Cruiser X to Control....start an ambulance...citizen on the deck "doing the fish"... .

I will one up that.... I had the operator speed off after issuing a citation that was disgarded out the window. So I pulled him over again issued a another citation for failure to yeild to on coming traffic, but hold on to your covers the operator executed this event once again and was stopped AGAIN. THis time I was issued another failure to yield, signal, and failure to use caution when starting (state highway).

*remembers, with a satisfied smile, that day sooo long ago on Beach Patrol in Manhattan Beach*

Thanks for the reminder, guys. I had a great training officer! (too bad he let his little head get him in trouble).

Probation Dept.'s Surrender Hearing wrapped-up the other day with the accused's lawyer making a stirring appeal on his behalf..."throwing the citation out the window should be protected under first amendment's freedom of expression"...Judge's Response = WRONG ANSWER.

Lawyer then intoned the virtues of his client, and recited the list of social deprivations which should compel the court to forgive his sad ass for just "having a bad day" on the day I stopped him, and has since reduced him to his sorry present mental state...Judge's Response = WRONG ANSWER.

Recommended: Serve Suspended Sentence, Take an Anger Management Class, and atleast an Extension of Probation.

Outcome: Community Service Hours and Extension of Probation. My Response = WRONG ANSWER.

I guess that sometimes the great task of social engineering does not always satisfy the demands and desires of the participants involved. It was good to see a Judge with some spine, but if the court cannot satisfy all the claims made upon her, in the end I suppose justice went around as far as possible, this time anyway.

There is still a Mag. Hearing and Show Cause Hearing in the accused's future, stay tuned.

I had a similar situation with an arrogant MD. The initial stop was for 89/4A, 90/17, & OTE. I handed him the criminal citation and attemted to explain that he would be summonsed to court. Instead of listening, he drove off and chucked the crumpled up citation into the right lane. Instead of pulling him over again and pulling him through the window, I let him go. I attached the crumpled up evidence to the criminal complaint for littering. I am sure he thought the ticket was just a civil fine. The thought of him receiving a summons to court out of the blue made me warm and fuzzy. Esp, since he lives no where near this District Court.

So when he doesn't show up for his hearing for OTE, a warrant will be issued and then go to his workplace and pickhim up for the warrant.
