True story below from a brother.
Ah.... yes, life out on the streets !!!
ON September 21, My Cadets and I were leaving the Station enroute to do a McGruff (The Crime Dog) program at a day care. One of my Cadets was wearing the McGruff suit and sitting in our Patrol Unit. Just as we left a call was put out by dispatch regarding a robbery at a nearby business with information the suspect was running toward the police department. Just then I saw two people come around the corner in front of us and one was the manager of the business that was robbed, the other was, of course, the Suspect. I stopped and confronted the suspect and had my "McGruff" stay in the vehicle for safety. After confronting the Suspect he became combative and was put on the hood of the car to be searched. He looked around saw McGruff in the car and began yelling " Please don't turn the dog lose, I'm sorry, please don't turn it lose. Now this guy had to go to jail and tell other inmates that he was arrested by a 5'-10" tall police dog in a trench coat..

Plays into basic, most innate fears; The Animal.
The dope wasn't afraid of night-sticks, OC, Tazers or bullets, just don't turn the dog on me..
