Six charged in violent robberies By Martina Brendel Staff writer
BEVERLY - Police arrested six people this weekend they believe are tied to two armed robberies in Beverly last week, one of which left a Lynn man with serious head injuries. Paul Bernard Cucinelli of Salem, Jamie DeAlmeida of Newburyport and Beverly residents Timothy Share, Sean Caldwell, Thomas Gross and Thomas Roys have all been charged in connection with one or both of the attacks. They were arrested between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and are scheduled to be arraigned today in Salem District Court. Police would not say yesterday which individuals were involved in which robberies. The first robbery occurred on Winter Street in Beverly at around midnight last Tuesday. The victim, a Billerica resident who is a student at Montserrat College of Art, told police he'd been struck from behind, beaten and robbed of his wallet, which contained $65, said Beverly police Sgt. Joe Shairs. The second robbery, which occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Friday, involved a Lynn man who was struck from behind and robbed of $5 while walking on McPherson Drive. Police found the victim lying on the street with serious head injuries early Friday morning. He was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston. Hospital staff would not give information about him Saturday afternoon.
Shairs said neither victim knew their attackers and believes the robberies were random. He would not say whether the attacks were motivated by drugs. Cucinelli, 20, of 10 Cherry St., Salem and DeAlmeida, 25, of 26 Essex St., Newburyport, were arrested on outstanding warrants Friday afternoon after undercover police officers recognized them driving over the Beverly-Salem bridge. They were charged at police headquarters in connection with the robberies when they showed nervousness during questioning, said Shairs. Cucinelli, who is wanted in Salem for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old with a knife on Central Street last Monday, now faces two counts of armed robbery, assault and battery and larceny over $250, while DeAlmeida, who was wanted on motor vehicle warrants from Newburyport and Ipswich, is charged with armed robbery. Thomas Gross, 19, of 261 Rantoul St., Beverly, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and assault and battery after questioning. Timothy Share, 19, of 21 Bennett St., is charged with two counts of armed robbery, assault and battery and larceny over $250. Sean Caldwell, 25 of 327 Rantoul St., is charged with armed robbery and larceny over $250.
Thomas Roys, 18, of 2 Duck Pond Road, is charged with armed robbery and larceny over $250. He allegedly used one of the victim's credit cards to withdraw cash. All are being held either at the Middleton jail or the police station until their arraignment today.
