Two arrested in Salisbury for bedding down in wrong places
By Dan Atkinson
Staff Writer

SALISBURY - Two men looking for a place to crash last night wound up cooling their heels in a holding cell after reportedly breaking into an abandoned motel and a house.
Robert Kennedy, 41, of 200 Harvey St., Hackettstown, N.J., and Barry Driscoll, 21, of 200 Landing Road, Hampton, N.H., were arrested yesterday morning in seperate incidents and charged with breaking and entering. Kennedy was also charged with trespassing and Driscoll was also charged with destruction of property. Sgt. Robert Roy and officer Daniel McNeil arrested Kennedy. They were joined by officer Bruce Dow in arresting Driscoll.
Kennedy was reportedly visiting family in the region and went out to a party, Roy said. He reportedly didn't want to drive home, so he went to the Ocean Gate Motel on Beach Road. The motel has been abandoned for about a year, but some doors to its rooms are still unlocked, Roy said.
"He decided to hunker down there," Roy said. Police arrested him at 4:08 a.m.
Driscoll, Roy said, was looking for a place to sleep. Driscoll reportedly broke into a North End Boulevard house at 5:41 a.m., but a woman in the house heard him and he left, Roy said. He then broke into another house before police arrested him. He entered both houses through windows, pushing out the screen of one window, Roy said.

Both breaking and entering charges were misdemeanors, crimes not as serious as breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, Roy said. People looking for places to stay can call the Pettengill House and get help there instead of breaking into buildings, he said. Such break-ins aren't frequent in Salisbury, but not unique either, Roy said.
"It doesn't happen a lot, but it happens," he said.
