I was riding my little sportster yesterday, and a lady in an SUV did a U-turn from the right lane of a 3 lane road. I was stopped at the light, and her rear tire hit my front tire of my motorcycle and she just kept driving.

Many drivers also filter in and out of lanes with checking blindspots and in my 30 years of riding, I had many near accidents.

I feel very sad when motorists get killed in accidents when they are not at faults.

Drive safely.

Man charged in motor vehicle death of off-duty Quincy officer

By Sarah M. Kneezle, Globe Correspondent
A man was charged today with motor vehicle homicide after police say he hit and killed an off-duty police officer who was riding a motorcycle in Quincy on Saturday.
Michael Brown, 42, of Quincy, also faces charges that include driving to endanger and failure to yield when making a left turn after he was in a blue 2000 Ford Focus on Route 3A Saturday and hit Officer James Cochrane, 38, according to Quincy Police Captain John Dougan.
Cochrane was off duty but had served on the department’s motorcycle unit for eight years. He died on Sunday at Boston Medical Center. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday.

As I posted elsewhere, motorcycle and pedestrian deaths are responsible for the increased number of fatal collisions: fatals involving cars only continue to decline.

Anecdotally, I have covered more motorcycle fatals this year than in the last two combined (...so far...). I think that part of this is due to Boomers' reaching middle age and the attendant 'crisis': they are buying bikes to revisit their youth, even though they have no experience with them.

MC + inexperience (regardless of age) = Carcass.

I know motorcycles are 'in', 'hip' and 'trendy', but do yourself a favor: if you didn't grow-up riding motorcycles...buy a Corvette, Viper, Challenger or Camaro...the life you save may be your own. (just my opinion...nothing to back it up as far as a 'study' goes...just telling you what I see everyday...)

Why is it that we hate "punks" blasting their stereos and bass, but it's OK for Harley's to wake-up the whole neighborhood? I was behind 2 harleys the other day with my full lights and siren, and they did not move to the side for over two miles because they could not hear me. They were completely unaware of the siren and airhorn blasting 25 feet behind them. I'm sure this will be an unpopular post with all the riders, but please explain the double standard.

I was stuck in traffic on 138 the other day, and a guy on a bike was going down the left side, IN the other lane, and then when he couldn't get any farther, he switched to the right side in the BDL. I really thought he was going to get picked off when he was in the left lane. Sometimes it really IS the motorcylists fault for the accident. I always check my blind spots when merging on the highway or switching lanes, but sometimes the bikes are weaving so much that you just miss them.

I had an incident about two months ago where I nearly had two people on a bike ride right into my back bumper...I was merging from 93N to 128S and I had a bunch of slowpokes infront of me after the merge.

I checked my mirrors, looked, and moved over a lane to the left. The bike was overtaking in that lane and I never realized it because it had THREE HEADLIGHTS so close together that I thought it was a truck in the far left lane (not the lane I was moving into).

Oops.

Pretty much you have to have the attitude that everyone is going to pull out in front of you. It seems it is always the elderly drivers that pull out in front of motorcycles more than anyone else, at least that's what i have encountered. You see the elderly person look left, you think they must have seen you because they looked right in your direction, then they proceed to pull out right in front of you!

Or when theres an accident and there all in the breakdown lane when im trying to get through with lights and sirens. Wait like everyone else! The person in the accident is having a much worse day then you!Waiting in traffic is not going to kill you. If your family member was in a accident you would want the breakdown lane cleared for emergency vehicles.
