(CBS 5) OAKLAND Two bystanders were wounded in a brazen shooting late Thursday afternoon that took place in front of the Oakland police substation at the Eastmont Mall.
The gunshots and ensuing aftermath were caught on tape by a CBS 5 photographer who was videotaping an interview with a police sergeant at the time of the incident.
The victims, a man and a woman, suffered gunshot wounds to their legs when they were struck by gunfire in the mall parking lot. They were in stable condition after being transported to Highland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Officers believe the shooter, described only as a dark-complected young man, escaped on foot after firing at least four or five times. Investigators believe the shooter actually missed his intended target near a mall bus stop on 73rd Ave. and instead stuck the two bystanders.
The shooter opened fire some 100 yards from where a group of police officers were located. Officers sprang into action the moment the shots were fired and began searching the parking lot for the shooter.
Police have made no arrests in connection with the incident
