Anyone have anything on this department? I saw there website. It doesn't look that hard to get on, PT test looks easy too. I know Las Vegas is an ever growing area.

My understanding is that they (LVMPD) are very selective on whom they hire. Not EASY to get on the Job there... but hey, maybe I got some bad info..

I also hear the LVMPD is very selective.

I saw a documentary on television (I believe the Discover Channel) about 2 years ago following 5 recruits through the academy. The program mentioned that the selection process and academy for LVMPD was one of the toughest in the nation. I don't know how biased this information is but it seemed tough from what they showed.

It was a great program!

I tested for LVMPD twice a couple years ago. First time I was essentially hired but was forced to "involuntarily withdraw" because I wore glasses (they apparently now require either contacts or laser surgery). Second time, they stopped hiring during my testing process because of 9/11. They have an excellent department. Testing process is long and tough, but well worth it. I still consider going back and testing as a lateral. I have lots of info if anyone is interested PM me.

I'm going through the background right now for LVMPD.Passed the written, PT,and interview so far.I was a Marine for 10 years and a Massachusetts state Corrections Officer for 5 years.
(including time at both of the state's maximum security prisons). So I think I'll be alright.
Anyone need info on Metro and the hiring process, send me an e-mail.

RPD,
Thanks. LVMPD is a top notch department, one of the best in the country.Pay and benefits are outstanding. They have over 2,600 commisioned officers with great oppurtunities for advancement and specialty units (SWAT,Air Support,Gang Unit,K-9,Bike Patrol,Detectives and many more.).Thier jurisdiction is the city of Las Vegas as well as all of the surrounding metro area and outlying area of Clark County which includes approximately 1.5 Million residents and over 7,000 square miles. If your in Mass. and frustrated with the stagnant Mass police hiring and civil circus, check out Metro. The out of state hiring process is very professional and streamlined and doesn't have any of that residency/affirmative action crap.Veterans get 2 points added to thier overall score.

Semper Fi,

Check out Metro's web site (with recruiting info): www.lvmpd.com
