pguitard, Were you called for an oral board following the test a few months ago??? Just curious cause I hadn't heard anything from them myself after that test. Good luck with it.

Did you get called from the last test?
I interviewed their about three years ago, be quick and concise with your ansewrs, and back it up with good hard fact. They board consisted of an LT, Capt, Sgt. officers, BU staff, as well as a Chief from the metrowest area.
BUPD's Chief runs the dept. like it was a municipality, which he is a former Chief of. His dept. has final say over anything that goes on on the BU campus. They used to butt heads with Boston an awful lot, as BU owns a lot of Mass. Ave and answers calls up and down it. They are not Boston Specials, they are their own dept and proud of what they do.
My best advice is to be honest, they will try to trip you up to see if you can think on your toes, and don't dig yourself into a hole trying to answer their questions, just answer it and be done.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice, I got called from the test given this summer, I tend to babble in interviews so I'll keep it to the point. I also tend to try and crack a joke to loosen it up, I'll bet that won't go over big.

I have my oral board interview next week with BUPD, I'm not too familiar with them, their chief, etc. any tips? They're viewd as special Boston police are they not? Any help is appreciated

If you havent checked it out already here is the departments website. Hope it helps, good luck
Believe it or not I got an 84. Not to start a S storm here but I'm a female, perhaps that's why I got a call? Just an idea, not intended to ruffle any feathers. Anyway, I am happy they called.

I'd like to think it's based on my qualifications, not sex. I will just do the best I can at the interview.

I scored a 92 as well...hmmm............very interesting......I guess they do run like a municipality...
Just joking. Hell, its not like any of us would turn down the interview. Good luck to you.

You never know, the whole issue of affirmative action....hey whatever works, heehee

PG, congrats and good luck. I got a 90. I don't hate the player, I hate the game!

Me too, I've been playing the game way too long.

Hmmm very interesting. I got a 92 and didn't get a call. Nothing personal pguitard, but it makes me wonder what the rational behind that was. Probably because your very qualified, but if they are going to call whoever they want, then it makes me wonder, why even give a test?

Hey all, I go to school at B.U. and there are a three to four B.U. cops in my classes. One is a sergeant that does the interviews. I asked him how many they are hiring and they are interviewing for about three positions right now and some more in the future. I told him I got a 93 and asked if they would be getting to my score soon. He said a 93 was one of the top scores, but B.U. is only hiring minorities and women right now so tough luck to all us white folk. He took my name and said he'd check into it, but I know he's just pulling my chain. They are only hiring minorities and women. Oh well.

I had the interview yesterday and as I was walking in another female candidate was walking out. I forgot to ask how many positions they were looking to fill. The interview was tough, honestly I tried my best so we'll see how it goes. So, someone on this post heard there are three open slots?

Hey Mpd61, is that patch the agency you are working for right now?
Posted by: q5_po
Mike, check your private messages

One of the BU Cops told me that they had around five slots open and five interviews in the last week and all of them were not selected. So I don't know what will be next. I will keep asking alot of questions to keep you guys informed.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Negative sir. It's where I started out. Had the priviledge of working with The Boy's from Brockton and West Rox, then I got to play with Brother Mike G, Stormin Normin, and the JP Crew. Positive experience overall.

If BU is only hiring the above mentioned. Does anyone recall the numbers from the last test? not many, if I recall. I got a 96. So we'll see

Geez! Do they really make big bucks over there at that campus? Seems they are right on cue if all you guys applied and took a test for it. Guess they are the department to work for! Interesting. Basically, most college campus interviews want officers with a community policing attitude, that would be my reply to this post. Does BU have more of a municipal attitude? Do you agree or disagree with affirmative action?

BU Cops are VERY well compensated. And the are probably one of the most pro-active jobs in the state (including muni).

Affirmative action HAD it's place at the time. Twenty years ago. Enough said.

One thing I heard abotu BU and MIT, not sure about Harvard, is that they fill certain positions with minorities to meet certain guidelines by the feds and for them to be in compliance with certain quotas. It seems that the Police departments on those campuses employ a larger number of minority officers adn other support services as well, cafeteria, maintenance , etc. They also give preference to people from within, like a janitor that wants to be a police officer. I heard MIT does or should say did employ that way, I believe Chief DeFava is probably changing those old standards.

I think it is mostly true everywhere that it seems as though the minority at times, feels like the caucasians. Perhaps, it is a good thing.

anyone out there know if BU is hiring at this time? I had taken the written exam and done the oral board interview last winter and got a call asking me if I was still interested recently. Thought this was dead in the water since I had not heard anything after the oral boards.
