Does anyone know at what point the academies swicth from the short sleeve shirts to the long sleeves ones? Or do they leave that up to the individual person?

They'll Let You Know!

What kind of an academy are you enrolled in?, they never leave anything up to you. You are a student officer, you do excatly what you are told to do. Believe me they will let you know. If you decide to change the uniform yourself, well good luck. The Staff Instructors will be in your face, telling you to write a 500 Word To/From on why you decided to change your uniform on your own.

Yeah they tell you everything... conformity is the goal- the SI's flip out if you want to be an individual

I was never implying I wanted to try an be an individual. Just trying to figure out on how much I'll be spending for the academy to budget some stuff out. If I'll need the shortsleeve shirts at all at this point or not, just a simple question.

Some of you guys read way too much into someone's question and you need to take a deep breath and relax.

If you need both short and long sleeve it will be on the list that they provide for you.

No I know what you meant - again it depends on the academy with regard to short/long sleeves. At Lowell they told us that we were going to be wearing short-sleeves the whole time just because it got kind of hot in the classroom so it's pretty much at the Academy Director's discretion. Good luck to you.

just buy long sleeve shirts. you can cut the sleeves off later.

My academy class started in January, so needless to say we were in long sleeves. It was around May that the instructors decided that short sleeves would be appropriate and they gave us a date to switch over. I just had the sleeves cut which was a minimal fee.

If your starting the academy now in short sleeves, that would definately be more of an added cost than a winter to summer uniform switch over. Our department paid for everything so it was not a problem, if your footing the bill, five new shirts would suck to pay for on the typical academy pay rate.

Lay off him guys, that is more than a reasonable question to ask. Atleast he is heeding the advice of previous posts and preparing by budgiting and paying attention to finances. Those of us on the board that have gone through the academy, unless living at home with mommy and daddy, know (or may have forgotten) it can be a financial strain... Can't win around here sometimes.

Just rip the sleeves off and go sleeveless, looks much better.

Eh, just show up like this. The Instructors will help you out.

I started the academy in Oct. and we had the long sleeve, by week five or so we were in T-shirts and BDUs more then the Kahikis, yeah it was nice. It was one of the lowest ranking academy in the Polls here, but you know what, Pinkerham signed all certificates the same regardless where you went.

I heard this the new uniform for the summer/spring:

My Academy certificate was signed by the Academy Director, Sgt. Thomas Fleming of the Lowell Police Academy.
