Hello folks, well i got a call from Director Corkran about a PO position they had open up. I sent him my resume back in January and i get a call now..lol I have been to that school many times and i know its boring but hows the work? I hear that it is pretty laid back with more locking of doors then of police work (not knocking the place just what i have seen/heard from taking classes there and talking to people) I am probably not going to take the job since i make more money where i am now but its close to my house so just figured i would ask.

Is the starting pay still 12hr? Are the benefits good atleast? whats the deal from those who know? thanks.

Take it from someone who knows, the best decision you can make in your life is not to take the job at Dean. If it was 3 years ago I would say go for it, it was a great place to work...but now forget it. Avoid the place like the plague.

Tell you what kid I worked there for about two years and left for personnel reasons. They are a lot busier than you think but colleges have a way of keeping on campus issues out of the public eye as much as possible. To be honest with you for not being armed I think we did too much at times and if you keep up with the local paper you will see some pretty good stuff they get into. The money isn’t great but if you’re looking for a job in law enforcement it’s a good start. The administration sucks residence life you have to deal with sucks bunch of idiots with no real life experience. They don’t want you to arrest the criminals and let me tell you they have plenty. But they have some good guys over there that do there jobs right. They had two sergeants I worked with while I was there on mids that are real sharp do a great job they are not the problem overall officers are squared away. The reason I left would be the Chief he is a complete puppet with no balls. And they Capitan is a retied trooper but you wouldn’t know it he is an ass clown to say the least. I don’t keep in touch with them guys anymore but before I left it was a good time.

I am not trying to knock the school at all. I know that the reputation of a few bad apples can ruin almost anything i was just trying to see what the inside scoop was....I have also received another job offer and I am just trying to weigh the two. Pay is going to be an issue with me. I honestly make more where i am now if the pay is still 12hr. Anyone know how the benefits are? sick time, vacation, personal days etc? Dean literally is 9 miles from my house thats really the only bonus.

Prepare to be shit on by students and staff, for $10.00 an hour. When a complaint comes across the chief's desk it will be taken as the word of God without any follow up invest and you may lose your job...and this comes straight from the horses mouth! I had an anonymous email get sent to the chief accusing me of SERIOUS wrongdoing...and I think I did more "looking into" the matter than any admin did. They were ready to fire me. The only good thing I can say is that the two sergeants there are probably the best supervisors I've worked with, they are the only ones that go to bat for your you when you're in the sh*t.
Bottom line, $10.00 an hour isnt a third of what I'd want an hour for wearing that uniform!

10 BUCKS AN HR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats friggen sad. I talked to the chief and he told me that the opening is for one of the securitas positions. Which as i understand it wears the same uniform as the dean employeed officers and does all the same functions with just the securitas written on the check. i realize securitas blows and pay you crap and dont have any benefits worth talking about. I make close to 13 hr now...not sure if its worth the cut.

Did he tell you that you would not be police but "public safety", at least for the first three to six months, and then they will consider getting you sworn in by the town. He forgot to tell me that when I applied for the job. I wanted the job so I could get the sworn hours towards SSPO, I started working there and was told that I couldn't wear a duty belt until I was sworn which made sense to me, then I was told I wouln't be sworn for three to six months. They then got my walking papers.

ok well, after talking to the chief more this is what the deal is: as a securitas employee you make 11.25hr, you will perform all the same duties as the dean employed officers. Securitas pays for all your uniforms etc but has the worst benefits known to man. You will be sworn in after 3 months as either a SSPO or a town special. You will under no circumstances arrest the students. I heard that they have a bike patrol. I was told that they have pleanty of ot available.

Actually Securitas gets $10.00 an hour and forget getting sworn in. Dean officers only get sworn in. Sometimes exceptions are made for Securitas but very very rarely. Just the same if your a dildo, you won't be sworn in.
On the other hand,
Just to set the record straight I don't know where the "not arresting students" came from, considering there were 22 students arrested on midnights alone last year.

Anyway like I said before stay away, it's not worth it.

Hello Muggsy09 not trying to start an argument here but this is what the assistant director e-mailed me. If he is shining me on..then I would appreciate a PM from you since you work there.
"There are no different functions between Dean Officers and Securitas personnel. It is just a matter of experience.
As I mentioned we have Securitas personnel who have police powers and serve as the OIC on certain shifts.
You have to be here for three months before we can submit your name for police powers.
The 80 hour break in will be on a couple of different shifts and I think the mid shift may be available"

As far as the 10 bucks an hr that is not true i actually called up your securitas recruiter and asked her point blank what the pay was since the assistant director wasnt sure. The 11.25 hr was quoted directly from your securitas recruiter/liaison. As far as not arresting the students sorry that was stated unclearly. I was told that they prefer not to arrest the students inorder to help keep them out of the CJ system more of an in house punishment so to speak. I am not saying arrests dont occur i am sure they do just stating what i was told thats all.
