A boy's uncle who allegedly used him to beat a breathalyzer that was supposed to prevent the man from driving drunk is recovering after a brief police chase. On Saturday morning, Juan Segundo allegedly blew into an interlock ignition device for his uncle, Jesse Segundo, 24,who had two previous DWI convictions. Jesse Segundo had been drinking that day and wanted to clear his head from his marital problems, police said, but caught the attention of police when he threw a beer can out the window. After a brief chase, Jesse Segundo was struck when he bailed out of the car. He hit the hood of the police cruiser, then fell to the ground. "I thought he was going to die in my arms," said Juan Segundo. "It was a pretty ugly weekend. I was kind of sad and crying in my room." "He kept saying that he regrets it," said Juan Segundo's mother, Angela. "That he wishes he never did it." Jesse Segundo was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he is still recovering. On Sunday, he called his nephew from his bedside to apologize. "He said he's sorry for taking me with him and that it wasn't my fault and that he's gonna be OK, don't worry and that he loves me and I told him that I love him too," said Juan.
