Hello I am currious if anyone has any info about emerson college pd? My friend has an interview with them on thursday. Basically from what I have read when doing a search is that the pay starts at 13.41 and that it is a fairly good department to work for. I also heard that they use a mini van as a patrol car? Also is forced OT still an issue at the college? If this person was to be hired which shift would they be placed on most likely? Thanks for the help!!

I interviewed overthere twice. The first time they told me that I was in and never heard back. 4 years went by and I got called for another interview and ending up going back and forth to Bostn 3 times. Again they told me I should get the job. They had me mail all my certification to them and I never heard back from them. Dont waste your time!!!!! It really isnt that great overthere, there is a good bunch of guys working there, but do not waste your time. They will probably throw your friend around and get his hopes up and leave him in the dust!!!!!!!!

I worked at Emerson College Police for four years. It was a great job. The pay starts at 13.41hrs with a yearly cost of living increase every OCT. The Chief is a great guy and stand by his staff 100%. The Lt are also excellant police supervisors. There is overtime and it is by sign up sheet. There are also details available at the Emerson Majestic theatre. When I worked there I did not get forced a whole lot. There is usually an Officer that will work the overtime for the money money. I interviewed for them in May 2001 and was hired by July, So it was a quick process. They also sent me to the SSPO academy. Any further questions PM me. The campus is also located in the former combat zone so you will see some pretty crazy stuff.

I work there, here are the facts: I Will not answer weather its a "good" dept to work for or not.
Day shift consists of
Chief
Deputy Chief
Lt
Sgt
3 Patrol Officers (with days off and such its normaly 2 Patrol Officers on at any one time)
Eve Shift
1 Lt
1 Sgt
3 Patrol Officers (Same as above)
Mid Shift
1 Sgt
2 Patrol Officers (Same as above)
Starting Pay is 13.41 an hour
Eve Shift Diff is 5%
Mid Shift Diff is 8%
Majestic does have details however I have seen the upcoming list of shows, its not impressive so dont count on many at all.
There is NO......NO parking provided (Since the sale of the Back Bay properties). There are lots in the area that charge a range of 12.00 - 19.00 (Approx)
There is a Mini Van used for patrol along with a 2002 Chevrolet Impala
The duty gear consists of O.C. Baton, cuffs, radio and 1 large key ring "you get at the beginning of shift"
As far as forcings, I can say safely that in the past 2 months I do not know of any days which Mid shift was forced onto days and again Days forced onto Eves. I know of maybe 3 instances where an Eve was forced onto mid however. The forcings have declined significantly since the new deputy implimented the new shifts on officers.
If you have any questions for someone who still works there feel free to ask.

thanks for the replys. My friend John who applied said that he would probably be working mids. That is a pretty low amount of officers on the campus. So i take it one rides the desk and the other drives around then they switch every 4 hrs or so? Or is it like most pds where the sgt takes the car and the other two officers trade off with the desk?..lol So with 8% 14.48 hr isnt too bad. Parking is going to blow though. Last i went to the common garage it was 12 hr with a max of 19hr. That is a total money killer. Boston is fun to work in but expensive as all hell.
Is this department big on training? I didnt think they sent you to the SSPO?

As far as shift assignments, its all up to the Sgt or OIC. Typicaly if he is on the Mid shift I dont believe he will see the car much at all, furthermore there really is no need to be driving the car where all of the property we are allowed to patrol is within one or two blocks with the exception of the Paramount which we really just have/had to do heat checks at.
Parking on the mid shift is a bit easier than other shifts becuse your more likely to get out of a ticket since BTD "i dont think" works at night.

thanks for the info. So is it a pretty active college? How much riding of the desk is there?

Pretty active college... no...... Riding of the desk, for a rookie, next to none after training.

Its as active as you make it. Watch out for the disgruntled bald guy on days he hates everything
