Way to GO USCG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SAN DIEGO -- The Coast Guard cutter Midgett, which seized a record-setting 15 tons of cocaine in South American and Mexican waters, arrived in San Diego Monday with its illegal cargo.

Out in the Pacific Ocean the Coast Guard found the ship, which had thousands and thousands of pounds of cocaine aboard. The scene was repeated several times during February and March when the Midgett discovered two more ships like it. In all, the crew seized 29,000 pounds of the drug.

When the Midgett arrived in San Diego on Monday, it was surrounded by heavy security as the bales were offloaded onto the Broadway Pier.

The 15 tons of cocaine had a street value of just over $250 million. It is the most cocaine ever seized on a single patrol. The Midgett's crew members stood along the edge of the ship on Monday, listening to the praise being showered upon them by drug-enforcement officials.

"Has it made a dent?" said Dave Butterfield of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. "Yes, it has made a dent. It hasn't just irritated somebody -- ladies and gentlemen, you have really irritated people."

Nobody was hurt during the multiple boarding, and not a shot was fired, said officials.

"Two of the boardings, it took a while to find the product," said Lt. j.g. Andrew Hoag. "It was hidden in a compartment on board, but the crews didn't put up any physical resistance to us."

The Midgett's captain, Ted Linstrom, said that this is just what they trained for -- but it's still something that they will never forget.

"Lot of time, lot of hard work getting the ship ready, keeping her ready, you know, for whatever mission we're headed on, so when we can be successful like this, every one is just ecstatic," said Lindstrom

The 378-foot cutter and its crew of 167 also arrested more than two dozen alleged traffickers aboard the three vessels it found with drugs aboard.

I can definitely say that being in the CG is great for large scale drug seizures. When I got my first bust (3,940lbs) about 3 years ago, it was a great feeling. Keeping that 2 tons of cocaine (about 49 bales) from making its way onto the street is definitely worth it.

GO COASTIES!!!

Go CG, over 250 million dollars worth. I wonder what effects this drug trade has on the economy. There is probably enough money in this trade to pay the federal deficit, hire more cops and firefighters, help elderly with medical expenses- I could go on and on.

I can't wait to hear more stories like this one.

How many grams in a ton? I have a pack of splanda on my desk, and that is one gram. I cant imagine what 29 tons would look like

Posted by: darkknight750il

28 grams/oz 896,000 grams per ton! For a grand total of 25,984,000 grams! That could mean 25.9 million kids can't ruin their lives by trying into coke! Way to go CG!
