Use of a dummie...

I notice the Stoneham Police Department has a cruiser parked on Route 28 (Main St) on a median separating the Northbound and Southbound lanes with a "dummie" seated in the drivers seat dressed in a uniform. What really completes this mess, and I'm almost positive this is what I saw, is the Dunkin Donuts cup sitting on top ot the dash board.

Wouldn't the union not want this? just curious

He is their latest lateral transfer.

It would all depend on how much he is getting paid.

Is it really any different than when they put out those rader signs that show your speed? or when they embed radar detectors in the pike signs? If the dummy actually started wrting tickets, then I would be worried.

Nobody slows down for the "The Speed Limit is 30" "Your Doing 48" signs...
But a cruiser - now thats a whole different story.

I'm sure the brake lights made 28 look like Times Square as soon (as DCS2244 would put it) the "Lemmings" see the stationary cruiser...

When I was out in Illinois a few years ago, the state police used them all the time. They would station a cruiser and a dummy on the highway for a few days. Once people relized it was a dummy, they would remove the car and a trooper would sit in the same spot. Shootin fish in a barrel.

Between the D&D cup, and that awful spelling post, this thread was a good chuckle.
Sounds like a fun town to work in..

I stopped this girl a couple of weeks ago that went by one of these signs(at night so it sticks out like a sore thumb). The sign lit up saying 67, it was a 40mph zone, and she didnt slow down at all. She was from Canada and told me that her car was in kilometers and that the sign was 67 kilometers... I almost couldnt hold the laugh in....ticket

At least you didn't have to work to figure out how fast she was going.

The last time he hit the spell check button the power went out.

The one potential downside I could see is if a citizen who was not aware of the "Dummy" saw the vehicle and assumed there would be help/safety inside.. A medical emergency or a domestic in progress..or a road rage where a victim stops and get out to seek help..only to be victimized when there is no help available...

Sounds like a liability issue to me too

Posted by: DVET1979

All I have to say is one thing about this issue and it goes for all of you out there. Next time any of you see this practice going on that a PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 WORDS. Just like Hartmn stated, what if someone needed that "officer" for help only to find Pinnochio siiting behind the wheel of the cruiser.

Um, actually, it wasn't a dummy, it was me.

I was tired and I didn't want to answer any questions.

So leave me alone.

Mkay?

Maybe they just ran out of parking spaces for the spare cruisers at the station...
