OUCH!!! LOL must have been immaculate conception

thanks MT1, take all the fun out of being a sex sheriff

Posted by: PearlOnyx

Ouch, that was harsh!

To answer the actual question at hand, I personally have no idea. Last week, I actually looked to see if they had a website, and I couldn't find anything other than something from their "Chief Enforcement Deputy", which was a "under construction" page. I'm not sure what a Chief Enforcement Deputy is? You would think a department that has all the technological "stuff" would have a website. I've heard these guys make in the mid thirties to start, but I can't confirm or deny that.

Since we are on the topic of Middlesex Sheriffs Dept. If you are employed as a college police officer and your powers are derived through the Middlesex Sheriffs Dept. are you eligible to work details in Middlesex County?

Posted by: PearlOnyx

Ejk,

I never really thought of that. We at Essex do not give our powers out to campus', so I can't answer from experience. I am pretty sure Suffolk, although they do swear in outside agencies, does not allow the campus officers on their detail list. I can't imagine Middlesex would either. Their union would be up in arms. There was a Tufts guy here at one point that would probably know. I'm not sure if he's still around.

Thank you.

When I was working at Lasell College, Newton PD if they could not fill a detail would let Lasell College Police officers work details on their middlesex powers. Why NPD never made them Newton specials as well is beyond me.

Thats a very respectable starting pay, I remember making less than 1/2 that as a town patrolman in Mass.

The answer regarding Suffolk County is NO. Many Campus/Hospital agencies receive powers from SCSD, however, the powers come with a policy stating that you may not work off campus details using the powers.

Thats never really come up with us. We are sworn deputy sex sheriffs because we are not town specials. Since we have town owned main roads running through our entire campus we had to be sworn in as Middlesex Deputy Sex Sheriffs to ensure powers on the roadways!! Unfortunately that creates even more of a mess with the Chapter 90 issues because we can only really excersize our sex sheriff powers if it is a breach of the peace! But we can serve civil process any where in Middlesex Sex County!

As far as swearing in outside agencies, that is true, although details are not included in the process of being deputized .Our details are filled by our own dept. with our own deputies. We do not hire outside agencies to fill the vacancies. We currently share details with Boston, Troop E&H which initially provide the details.

FCSPD,

How does one become Deputy Sex Sheriff? Sound like a fun job

Posted by: nixon3535

how do you apply for middleSEX county sherriffs? i was lookin for info?

Posted by: jmarshall753

There is a written test usually around the first of the year. If you fill out an application they will inform you when the test will be. If you pass the written test you will then be able to take the physical test. If you pass that test you will begin the selection process. background check, references and what not. The next step is an interview with the personal director. If you make it past that stage you interview with the sheriff himself. He is involved with all selections. If you are selected you take a physical exam and drug test. The the academy. Pass 18 weeks at the academy and you start your career. 4-12 or 12-8 no weekends off. The pay and the benefits are worth it.
The phone number far an application is 978-667-1711 follow the voice prompts until you hear personnel and they will send you an application.
