Boots for the academy

Do I need to get those all shiny leather boots for the academy or am I ok with the tactical kind of boots made of leather that don't really shine too much? Like are those 5.11 ATAC boots accepted for all reasons at the academy?

What academy are you going too? I would say shiny anyway!!! just wondering were your going.

Corcoran Jump Boots normally. With or w/o zippers (pending on the academy). I wouldn't suggest showing up with something other than those.

We were issued the Corcoran's w/out the zipper (and they were VERY specific about no zipper). They have "shineable" toes and heels and can get very shiny with a bit of work.

get the nice military jungle boots and shine those up. the cochran ones work too.

Do you'r self a favor and buy a pair of Corcoran jump boots $100 or so, they will shine up pretty easy which should keep the DI's off your back. If you are issued something else and the academy lets you wear them great,, now you have a dress/ spare pair. As you know the less amount of attention you draw to you'r self the better

GOOD LUCK

I still have my Carolina zip up high top boots with the snap over the top of the zipper.
In my opinion and being a veteran I think anyone in any academy should look squared away at all times . Military creases in the shirt and pants, lots of starch, boots highly shined. I also believe one should be physicaly squared away. Not like some Corrections Academy Grads who are nothing but fat loads. they have lowered the physical standards so any hack fatbody can make it. But don't let that keep you from looking good and staying sharp mentaly and physicaly. press that Uniform, Shine those boots and be proud.
Then after 5 to ten years on the job you can be one of those fatbody's too....But hey at least you started off on the right track!!!!!

I agree, there's nothing worse than seeing some out of shape guy trying to enforce something. All the suspect has to do is run. Not to mention you're also responsible for the safety of your fellow officers. There's nothing worse than responding to an incident and your partner/backup is so out of breath that they can't even help and then you need EMS for them. Regarding the uniform, don't wear a shirt that has ketchup/oil stains on it.
Regarding the boots, I find that Danner boots are good for the academy, they're going to run you a couple hundred for the good ones. But as long as you keep them shiny without cheating, (so no floor wax, or shine polish) (just kiwi, water, lighter and elbow grease) and take good care of them, they'll last you a long time. The only thing you'd have to do is have them re-soled.
Rocky and Bates are decent if you're going to wear them for the academy and get rid of them. They also can be re-soled to keep for a long time, but the leather a bit cheaper than some other brands. In other words, you get what you pay for!!

hell yeah for the Kiwi and water and elbow grease... i hate cheaters!

I'm at Lowell right now and the Corcoran jump boots are doing just fine Good luck to you!

I used the Rocky jump style boots. We were allowed to use those, they had the side zipper and shiny toe and heal. Strip the factory shine off with rubbing alcohol and get out the kiwi, cotton balls, lighter, and some elbow grease. Dont use anything but. The drill instructors have been around a long time and know all the mop and glow tricks etc. Good luck at the academy.

Call Lt. Rufo at the Woburn Police - he'll explain all about Boots. And explain his opinion on anything but leather.
