Hey all, I'm an O.com transplant here at masscops for the 1st time. Got a question for anyone who cares to help a brother out. I'm currently with a municipal agency in a large metropolitan city in North Carolina, but I'm originally from western Mass, and I'm looking to come home if I can. I know that it's possible to get a waiver for the academy, assuming my prior academy measures up, but I was wondering how common is it in reality. Also, can anyone tell me how it actually works? Do I still have to wait for the job announcement and take the test with all the civilians, or what? Also, can any agency hire a lateral from out-of-state, or only non-civil service? I'd really appreciate any and all advice I can get from my fellow massholes.

Dave, I transferred my NH cert almost 4 years ago. Not sure if Ma is still allowing it. I heard they
are not. Also you cannot lateral from out of state to civil service. You have to take the test
like everyone else. Non civil service towns can accept out of state laterals and there are many
towns in the western part of the state that are not civil service as you probably know. Hope this helps and good luck.

Massachusetts no longer accepts the New Hampshire Police Academy because of the difference in classroom hours.
