‘Victim’ charged with running himself over

http://news.bostonherald.com/localRe...ticleid=148786

At least this drunken driving suspect didn’t harm an innocent bystander.
According to Braintree police, a 47-year-old man is suspected of running himself over while operating under the influence of alcohol.
Cops found the man lying on Pond Street with a head injury early Saturday morning. A driverless Dodge Dakota had crashed into a telephone pole 200 yards away. Hair was on the rear left tire, police said.
Police originally believed the accident was a hit and run, but after speaking with the man’s friends, they realized the culprit was the victim himself.
“It’s a first,” said Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins. “It’s pretty crazy.”
Witnesses told police the man had consumed several beers before he agreed to move another man’s Dodge Dakota truck out of a driveway to allow another car to leave.
Police believe the man either fell out of the truck while driving or parked the running truck and then tried to get back in as it began to roll away. The truck ran over his head, causing non-life threatening injuries. He was brought to Boston Medical Center.
“He was conscious and breathing, said Officer Paul Hamilton, who responded to the accident scene, “but not completely with it.”
Police are planning to charge the man with operating under the influence. The victim/suspect told police he has no memory of the accident.
