I've applied to: Millbury, Oxford, Spencer, Framingham, Salem NH, Mendon, Shrewsbury, and Grafton. And will be applying to Upton. Is it that tough to get a job?

Generaly they want people already trained. This may include 911 training, various apco or similar training, EMD training, first responder, Leaps certification, and experience. 911 and leaps you can only get from an agency that hires you. The EMD / APCO stuff / first responder you can get privately. Many places that hire you part time will supply this training to you, but if they're looking for someone full time, they want a turn-key operation generaly. I spent 100 hours training as a part timer, and only 24 at a totaly new department when I went full time a year later.

So, if all you can get is part time, take it. that is if you really want to dispatch. Its not a great job. Pay isnt great, not very rewarding, and you dont pick when you get to fuck-off at work...

My brother does it in c-mass and really likes it. I already have CPR and 1st Responder. I am a FF in Cmass and I figured that might help a little bit

Wow!! Good luck...hopefully something will happen! Some places are willing to train if they think you have a good head on your shoulders and will be able to put in the time to really help out their department. Keep us posted.

no

LKat20. I will definately let you know what happens. Let me know if anything changes in the LEAPS system. I had an interview with Mendon last week. It seemed to go well and they said they will call in a week, but we will see what happens. I mean I have a pretty good idea of what is going on, I just don't have the training.

try bellingham also.

Dispatching is alot like police (calm down hero's, i mean in refrence to hiring) there's alot of people trying to use it as a stepping stone, theres only "X" amount positions, & if you want a F/T position then u have to have time as a P/T.

Posted by: kmorrissey5

OK thanks bud. I completely understand that I have to pay my dues as a part-timer. I guess I just want to get started now, but I understand it's a long process.

well i dunnoif its considered paying dues. i just notice in the leaps files that they give pref to those w/ experience. there is oppurtunitties out in our area. R u looking for a foot in the door or a full time job or both. P/T dispatching is bad if u r not trying to raisea family or something.

Posted by: kmorrissey5

Good news! Just got a call from Oxford. Have an interview Thursday!

one got on the job in a neighboring town, one is moving out of state, and the third just had a baby and is probably not coming back from maternity leave. just bad timing i guess.
