Boston LTC

I'm finally going to bite the bullet and purchase an off-duty weapon. I work out of town as a part-timer and reside in the city of Boston.

I have heard horror stories of people trying to get ALP licenses in Boston and was wondering what kind of experience fellow LEO's have had. Is it true that there are two applications for LTCs in Boston- one for LEO and one for civilian?

Is there a certain person I should contact to start the process rather than going to HQ and picking up an application?

Feel free to PM me.

Thanks

Last I heard, Boston does not issue ALP LTC's, and getting one in general is a real PITA. I know of guys at work who have been fighting for over a year and a half to get one.

Should you get any LTC, they will most likely restrict it to "Employement" or "Hunting and target"

Ummm you won't get one. You will get a Class A but restricted...LEO or not.

How can Boston justify not issuing ALPs to LEOs?

They, like apparently a lot of agencies these days, use it as a form of gun control. No licenses, no yahoos carrying guns in our city. Problem solved.

I was under the impression that unless there was a compelling reason not to do so, ALP was supposed to be issued.

I have a ALP large capacity license. I got it when I quit because it was required for my new job, and I didn't have a problem getting it. But of course, ask me again when it expires in 2011 and I no longer know anyone in the office.

Because Boston is communist. I'd say move out to a city or town that's not too far but will not give you a hassle. Thats dumb that you're a part time cop and will have to put up with that. What's the deal with HR-218... If your employing department authorizes you to carry off duty on your badge is that possible?

Posted by: sureshot

Unfortunately the department has yet to issue any directives on HR 218

If you want one that bad, get a lawyer........

I just don't think this justifies spending thousands of dollars on lawyer fees

Sureshot if you work for municipal department you can get your LTC by the department you work for.
Two ways to get a LTC
1. The city or town police department you live in

2. The city or town you work in as a police officer in.

Department only issues LTCs to officers who live in town
