Pittsburgh City Council yesterday honored Edward C. Rose III, a deputy in the Allegheny County sheriff's office who was inducted to the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame last month as "2006 Law Enforcement Instructor of the Year."
City Councilman Luke Ravenstahl presented a proclamation to Officer Rose, of the North Side, who has worked for the sheriff's office for 17 years and practiced martial arts for 33.
The 48-year-old deputy has offered free sessions in the Canadian Seicho Jutsu nonviolent system for youth at the Hill House Association, the North Side YMCA and Rankin Christian Center. He volunteered training sessions for law enforcement officers in the county courthouse and at Plum High School. ...
