Any information out there on Wellesley College, Pay Benefits etc would be appreciated

I believe its one of the best paid campus police departments.

i know they are armed.

Wellesley College Police are a very well paid department. They carry firearms and are sworn in as town specials. I believe they also send their recruits to a municipal academy. Check out their webpage.

I worked there in 1976 - 1977, essentially got my LE career started there. Even back then, I felt that the training was good; the atmosphere was professional; the pay was great (comparatively, and for "the day"); benefits were good; the cops were armed, and never heard any talk of "unarming" them (though, back then, we only carried 5 shot .38 caliber S&W Chief's Specials!). The Chief was a guy by the name of Barry Monahan, I think he may still be affiliated with the college at some high level post, though not the Chief any more. He gave me a great recommendation when I "moved on".

Curious to hear what any current employees have to say.

Anyone else part of the application process and taking the test on july 30th?

Posted by: po-904

Yeah Tommy,

I am. I wonder if they actually screened all the resumes or if they gave everyone who submitted one an invitation to take the test...

Posted by: tommym27

the letter said "the next phase of the selection process requires all interested candidates..." so i would assume that anyone that sent in an application got the letter. i suppose we'll see on sunday huh?

The fact that they go to a full-time academy has no bearing on being SSPO's. Campus PO's that go to SSPO academy become SSPO's. Campus PO's that go to Full-time academy become SSPO's. Campus Officers with Reserve Academy and degree become SSPO's. No difference other than more weeks of academy and different certification. The college powers do NOT change.

Yeah, but as discussed on this board many times it would have been sweet if they sent you through the municipal academy, just to avoid having to go through 3 different academies. they send their recruits to the SSPO academy and not the municipal....that was the pooint i was goin for.
