Hi, I currently work at Lasell and it is a good place to work. I have worked in 2 other colleges and this is by far a better place to work. The pay is better than most. We work a 5 day schedule. The only drawback is that we provide serives to an elderly retirement home. Alot of medicals. The midnight shift has to dispatch from this location. Its not that bad you have the internet, a TV with cable. Time goes by quickly. We do carry. The college has issued firearms(glock 22) to all the officers. We do Newton Details which is a good benefit. We are also middlesex sherrifs and state specials. Anything else let me know.

thanks for the response! how often is overtime available? also, how frequent are the newton details?

thanks

What is the starting pay over there?

Posted by: soxrock75

Funny, I didn't think that Lasell had that good of a reputation. For someone's first post ever on MassCops, PaulBor sure goes above and beyond to sell how great it is working at Lasell........... Who knows, I could be wrong.

Well they certainly aint quite Wellesley College league yet!

I dropped a resume and cover letter to them about a month ago and havent heard anything. Anyone know why? My first answer is they probably arent interested but I thought maybe I'd get a response saying so. I am academy trained so I figured at least an interview. Any thoughts?

Posted by: Beowolf

When you called them for follow-up info re: the status of your resume, what did they tell you?

Posted by: silva

Ive tried calling the hr director, and emailed as well, nothing so far....

Posted by: HELPMe

I heard that unless you know someone its hard to get into that school. I used to know one of the supervisors that worked there. There is a 3 part interview process, an initial interview, the second is you go infront of a board of officers and answer scenario questions, the third is if the admin likes you they will call you back for a follow up interview. I had a friend who also applied and got to the second round of interviews and is still waiting to hear from them. He has called and e-mailed but still no reply and no response. Also this position has been posted on their website since mid may so i have no idea why they havent filled it yet.

Sgt. ST formally of MIT, Emerson, Fisher and the Patriot Ambulance company worked at LaSell and left after being passed over for promotion. What does that tell you about the place.

All that experience and all he learned was to sleep on a couch in front of a camera, THAT WAS IN PLAIN VIEW. But your version sure sounds better.

I can say I average at least 8 hours a week. Some weeks are more. We have details at the college: soccer, lacrosse, basketball.
Newton details we probably get 1-2 a week. But we all need to share them.
We do have a union in place. We just resigned our contract for another 3 years.
We do get a uniform allowance. We do need to qualify twice a year. We also get court time.
It may be my first post but I thought the information would be helpful.

Sgt. ST is no longer with the "College on the move" that's located in the trendy Back Bay.

He did the 2 years committment he made to the Chief. I don't think the Chief knew that he spent most of his overnight shifts asleep in his "private cruiser" in the alley.

Does anyone know where he is hanging his hat these day's

Just curious if anyone has heard back who applied to the college? My friend finally got an e-mail response from the LT stating that everyone who received an interview (which he did) would get a call by the end of last week advising them of their status. Well, that was on 7/13 when he got the e-mail and it is 7/26 now almost a full two weeks later and still no call or response. Checking their web site I see that they finally took down the job posting. So my guess is that it has been filled. Just curious though, like I said if anyone who applied got anytype of response from them. It seems to be the that a majority of qualified people were blown off.

I hate that. Nothing more unprofessional than leaving a candidate hanging. A simple "Thanks, but no thanks card would be nice".

Former LCPD retired here...I remember when I got hired there back in '01, I got a call on a Sunday morning from that individual---got caught kind of off guard, calling on a Sunday and all! It was a good fun run when I was there, not sure if it has gotten better or worse now though...

That would be true in most cases. However, in this one they told the applicant that he should expect a call from them in approx one week. Also just to update this tread my friend after e-mailing the LT for a third time finally got a response last thursday stating that he didnt get the job. That was almost 2 weeks after he was told to expect a call back. He also told me that they only had 9 applicants go for the position so it wasnt like they had 30 people to call back. Very unprofessional.

I think that some people who are in position of power, ( veteran members of the command staff ) tend to forget the significant committment a candidate takes on during a police hiring process. They also lose site of the fact that the hiring process can be an anxious and exciting time. It's not right to leave someone hanging. A simple letter or phone call is the decent and professional thing to do. Some do it right and others just drop the ball in this area.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. In years past the Lt. had the entire summer off. It could be possible that is the reason for the delay. If you are getting blown off however, there are better jobs to worry about getting.

Posted by: DeputyFife

Wow---the LT gets the entire summer off??? Sign me up!!!

I agree....I was a finalist for one of four reserve positions in a non civil service town and was told at the end of my oral board that everyone would be contacted in a week and that no one would be left hanging...two days later they sworn in four officers to include the Chiefs kid....so much for a week...Guess how I found out..article in the newspaper and nothing ever from the dept...a year later I got on the next town over part time .....in retrospect I felt I got a much better deal where I am now....better pd... more toys...larger patrol area etc..but at the time I was pretty pissed.

Dont feel bad about not getting an interview, i havent got a call either and i got academy, police experience,4 year degree etc. i havent got a thanks but no thanks letter or a "were reviewing apps" at all i think they had some one in mind for the position all ready when they posted the job. Good Luck

Posted by: Jackpot

They prefer to hire those with little or no experience because they do not want anyone smarter or with better command of the law than them.

Be lucky you did not get a call back.

Since when did that cute blonde cop go to a town?

Jackpot, that little pixie left a couple of years ago I believe. Too bad that they haven't found a replacement as easy on the eyes.
