We have 3 patrol (paddy) wagons and a transport van. Usually only the van is operable so on busy days it sucks waiting for transportation. But I think I'd rather wait than transport in myself and deal with the asshole (usually smelly) in the back all the way to the station. We really need a new cruiser design....

Posted by: PBC FL Cop

Worcester PD's Paddy wagon system is one of the best systems I've seen for arrests!!

Yeah I would have like that kinda of system a few years back, when they bought really shitty cages that you had no leg room if you were over 6ft. Thank god our new cars have cages that go pretty far back I actually have a very good amount knee clearance.

Posted by: bluej511

Haha yea everyone has complains about there Departments thats just how it is..hell i even have complaints about my job to lol

But ill tell u this, that the smartest idea for a cruiser (not sure what its used for yet) is a town in Vermont (i wont say who)..there using a 2007 Toyota Camry about that?

Now i know when i go in that town ill watch myself cuz those cars are all over the road so i wont know whats what lol

Posted by: Andy0921

The new Camry is a sharp looking car, However I am definitely not feeling it as a patrol car at all. I would never ever want a foreign car as a cruiser, nor as a POV im a ford guy.

Posted by: bluej511

its the 4CYL to who knows if its gonna be used as a drug car or the chiefs car or an unmarked..believe it or not my friend made a good point he said if lets say the MSP started using the V6 Accord either coupe or 4door no one would speed cuz you wouldnt know whats a cop car since there all over the roads and lets face it u dont see to many regular crown vics driving around now do you lol

are you the only one too use new lot or what, was up by there and had blocked of with cones.

Posted by: bluej511

I used a Circular Polarizer..you rotate the element and it turns the sky a darker blue or lighter blue..also works for reflections on the water and on car paint anything that has a polarized light

Posted by: Sniper

what camera are you using? DAMN those pix look great... I'm getting bored with my third Sony, been poking around for a while............

Posted by: bluej511

using a Canon Digital Rebel XT and there already coming out with a new one within the next few weeks lol its called the XTi.

nice pics, I like the colored lenses on the new boston cars. Are the Boston and MSP car 07's or late 06's?

Posted by: Andy0921

Looks like it didnt rain there in Mass?

Posted by: bluej511

All late 06's very late

Posted by: tazoez

I'll take the Mustang

Posted by: Andy0921

The newer style mustang looks cooler. Thats weird theres no spotlights on those Boston cars.

Posted by: djgj200

those boston cars are probably the nicest cars i've seen. they always look nice when they are brand new though.

Posted by: Bri9801

Boston only has spotlights on the traffic cars

I guess they don't have dark alleys in Boston? I like those Whelen lightbars on the Boston cars we have the same ones down here, very very bright and LEDs and best of all none of that white domed crap. Colored lens and still extremely bright!

Posted by: Doxparadise

hey BLUEJ511,
I was wondering if you could give me a nice photo of an MSP cruiser that is big enough to fit my desktop as a background? My background is 1400 x 1050, but i think anything above ~1100 x 700 should be alright. Id really appreciate it. Thanks
p.s. nice photos

Posted by: bluej511

yea just tell me which picture you like and once i get home ill edit it abd post it up....the IMG number would be good

Posted by: Doxparadise

Its the MSP charger in the 98th post on the 10th page. image number 2526. Thanks a ton man.

Andy told me Westborough's Car 21 was going in for a brake job. I figured it would have fell in your hands when it got there.

bluej511
# 1 nice picture of westborough cruiser
#2 someone left comment in my guestbook that says NH State Police ordering 40 Dodge Chargers, so keep your eyes peeled

Posted by: bluej511

We dont do NHSP though unfortunatly and knowing NH they'll probably be V6 but hey who knows lol ive already got one with problems with 80 miles lol but ill let u guys know later next week what the problem was

Posted by: AWS019

MHQ has done NH State Police in the past
this is at former location on boston post road

Posted by: bluej511

thats really old though looks like 03-04 cruisers so probaly 01-02 thats before my time lol

Posted by: NHTrooper

Actually, NHSP ordered 66 Dodge chargers and they are in, all black being painted at a turtles pace. One is out on the road to a Sgt. in the Troop A, I-95 Seacoast area. They have the V8 HEMI and will be slow to roll out if anything like past years. Ossipee Mtn will do the setup after they go to the University of NH and our "radio guys" who install the Car54, or "talking Car" program. I will try to get a photo and post it here.

Posted by: bluej511

haha that would be awesome i didnt think u guys had a state police lol jk jk

That's starting to be a more common black and white design. Berlin just switched to it, Douglas has it, Templeton just switched to it and a lot of others.

What lens did you get? I have the 18-55mm stock lens with my XT, and a 28-135mm IS 3.5-5.6 USM (my favorite), along with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens...of course I don't get to take enough pictures.

Posted by: SinePari

Bluej511, are the 2007s coming in for MSP anytime soon?

Posted by: bluej511

Frank i really like that 50 i hear its sharp as a nail...i bought a 70-200 f/4L used since May '06 so i got a good deal.

SinePari i have no idea hopefully soon, i dont even remember when you got em last year

Posted by: Andy0921

How are the 07's? We just got like 3 or 4 today, I think there 07's or there late 06's.

Posted by: bluej511

havent figured it out yet its at the Harr Dodge as were not certified for em

Yup, damn dodges. Everyone says that the car just cant handle 24hrs a day.

Well i dunno about that but that East Bridgewater Charger is nice!!

Posted by: bluej511

that Mustang is MSP to in case anyone wondered and yes that charger is sick..the slowly leaking tire gave the car a nice lean lol

Posted by: bluej511

oh btw heres one i edited for you guys its also a lot bigger

Posted by: Andy0921

Its a cool looking car, but it sure as hell wont be 4 years down there road with 115,00 miles on it. If it makes it that long.

Posted by: tazoez

A Dodge mechanic that I know says that the Chargers have a heating/cooling issue. Apparently they leak anti-freeze through the pipe that connects into the heater core.

Posted by: JoninNH

Burning antifreeze... that's something to look forward to.

bluej511-

Heres a question for you (or anyone that can answer it)

What kind of tires are these?

Posted by: Mongo

Punctured

Posted by: snapbox

Yeah I'm well aware that they aren't in the best condition.. however alot of our local cars use them around here (and I've never looked to see what kind).

Damn, someone beat me to it. I was going to say that they called flat.

Posted by: snapbox

Okay.. but the question is this:

Why do the local cruisers still have them on in the summer, if they are only winter tires?? Too much effort to switch them over? Do they perform just as well as summer tires?

I was thinking about putting them on my car, if they're that damned good.

Posted by: frank

$$.

They're cheaper. My department has snow tires on the rear year-round, with all-seasons on the front. The only problem is that it's super easy to break the rear end loose if it's raining.

They aren't Goodyear though (which can break easy too; at least the RSA does on my car).

Posted by: zebra3

I have the same tires on my car, they're all weather tires. They were already on when I bought an '02 Crown Vic, ex-Maine State cruiser. I like the way they handle, but some of the guys I work with said to get rid or them.

And where do you work?

A Greater Boston Police Department. (Check out my link)

They are pretty good considering a car's capabilities. We live on a hill and the cruiser with those on (rears only) is the only 2WD vehicle that can get up it when there is 3-4" of snow (not packed/fresh with the limited-slip differential engaged). The tires do spin but its not like the car crawls up the hill and its about a 40-50' treck up hill so its not like its a short hill. Otherwise you need 4WD to get up the hill. When the snow gets packed down then forget it with the 2WD with the steepness of the slope. They advertise they are good for wet conditions too because of their displacing tread.

Now that the CVPI's are going with 17" tires, everyone is getting the GW3's which are rated a lot better than the GW2's. You can't get the GW2's for 17"+ tires. I am not sure if they make the GW3's in 18" for the Dodge Chargers.

Posted by: snapbox

So GW3s in the rear and then OEM in the front? That works... This will be my first winter in a RWD sedan- wish me luck =)

Posted by: frank

We're getting off-topic, but here's my point of view: snows on the rear only will help you go, but they won't help you stop or turn in snow if the fronts don't have traction...but it depends on how much you drive in what sort of conditions, and if you HAVE to drive in them and how much.

Personally, I love my FWD car with 4 performance snow tires and a skid plate (which reminds me; I need to put it back on before the winter).

It drives and handles better in the snow than my mother's AWD Subaru, and it glides over snowbanks if it has to (last year there was a good storm and MassHighway/contractors left a 2 foot by 3 foot snowbank during rush hour between the first and second travel lanes several miles long on 128 South in Burlington...dozens of cars were getting stuck in it).

Oh, that pic of a dead cop in a coffin... Nice touch... real honorable.

What happened to that Wilbraham cruiser? The frame is untouched, looks like a TALL bumper hit the car. Hope the officer was alright, ouch!

In regards to tires: Different tires on different axles will have adverse effects on handling, obviously. Been there, done that, god its awful, and I (for the most part) am not driving pursuit style). Eagle RS-A's can be had directly from Goodyear for between 60 and 70 shipped directly to a dept. What does it cost to swap tires at a local garage, $5 a rim?

Posted by: bluej511

the frame was untouched i do believe the car has been gone for a while so i dont remember he did break some ribs and his legs and wrists i dont quite remember.

Parked on a detai probably had a sign next to the car and got his by a drunk driver (woman on her either 2nd or 3rd offense)

As far as the tire thing you guys should check out tirerack.com for sticky tires i hear you can have an account with them or something of that sort and get discounts, a few dealerships i know have done it. Plus ud get parts for your own personal vehicle for cheap to if your cool with whoever orders the tires and what not for cruisers. They also have very grippy pads and rotors

Posted by: Curious EMT

TireRack is a very good company to deal with. I got both my summer and winter tires from, and they suggested a VERY good shop to go to for the swap who used Nitrogen.

Also they have money-back guarantees on most of their products, as well as a LOT of reviews.

That is true too. Last winter during one of the big storms while one of the officers in town was going on a call, the road started to bend and as the officer tried to follow the bend the cruiser lost traction/control and went right into a stone wall I think. The brass started to tear him apart for driving too fast on calls but one of the witnesses said he was at a crawl when it happened, I guess he was at best doing 5 MPH maybe even less. So you are right about having snow tires on just the rear.

I am not an Auxiliary. I meant for you to check my link in my signature. If you must know I'm a 20 year veteran of the Somerville Police Dept. Is this how you treat new comers to Masscops? If so, I may just log off for good. I posted the link to the Auxiliary Police to help the original poster. I'm not sure what you are referring to about the dead cop in the coffin, but we had two veterans die of cancer within the last year you curious ass.

Posted by: zebra3

Let's see, I joined this forum because a friend told me that it was a good way to communicate with other law enforcement people from the area. The first day I posted any comments I was attacked as being an Auxiliary driving in a retired cruiser posting pictures of dead cops. Interesting.
If you must know, my name is Mike, I've been on the Somerville Police Dept. for 20 years, I'm currently assigned as a Crash Investigator in the Traffic Unit. I maintain web pages of a collection of photos pertaining to my department dating back to the 40's, which there is a link in my signature.
Now I'll probably get kicked off the forum for going on a rant and off topic, but I thought it should be said. What a way to introduce yourself.

Mike

Are the Chargers so precious to the MSP that they only transport them on flatbeds instead of driving them? I think most of the Charger pictures that I have seen so far were on the back of a flatbed.

Or, is it just because they are as unreliable as everyone thinks they are?

Posted by: bluej511

yes there precious, this one was getting picked up..They dont wanna put to many miles on em thats what i heard, thats why instead of driving it to Harr ( i would have to hahahahah) we towed it and towed it back.

Posted by: frank

Ridiculous. It makes me wonder if they're actually going to be driven on the road or if they'll be for special ops and parades only.

Posted by: bluej511

Guys theres a couple pics under my automotive section in my gallery, i figure its easier that way then to clog up the thread.

Posted by: djgj200

how come you photoshop'd P1? Good to see Federal Signal makes a good Dynamax speaker. It survived that crash. I wonder if it still works.

Posted by: bluej511

i took the paint color next to P1 and painted over it lol. In smaller size it looks fine but original and i can tell i cleaned it up

95 Caprice

04 or 05 Ford Crown Vic

98 and an 00

and no I have no idea if these cars are still in service. They are just some that were in my collection that I turned into Black and Whites.

Posted by: Andy0921

I would imagine that 1726 car is still in service, it's only an 03-04.

Posted by: bluej511

As far as the calendar idea, i havent gotten a response back yet but will be making a call when i find time.

Oh and southside sorry that some of us arent fortunate enough to make 40$ an hr sitting in a car doing nothing. And the reason andy is saying im a good guy because unlike you hes spoken to me a couple times either in this thread or in PMs and he doesnt make assumptions like you. Please tell me that you've never had a ticket in your life and you were a perfect driver when u were 18 till u became a trooper and that not once in your life did you go over the speed limit?

Shitload of offtopic posts removed, shall we reopen the thread and play nicely now?

You want to bitch about other stuff, take it to the proper place or maybe just shut the fark up.

Posted by: bluej511

Ok Well since this is open again id like to offer my apology to those who want to take it. Some of the things i said were out of line and i should have kept to myself. I apologize to the whole Massachusetts State Police.

On the other note someone has made it impossible for me to post anymore pictures or answer any more questions since supposendly its of our business only, although i do like helping people and showing new products and towns from all over the state without actually having you travel that far.

So no more cruiser pictures and no more gear pictures as well.

Posted by: GMACK24

well speaking of MA state police cars.
I saw my first Dodge Charger on the road today.
it was leading a funeral procession down Route 24 South Today.

That is all
Carry on

Posted by: JP64

Okay, so it's not really a cruiser, however, I think you'll like it.

Posted by: bluej511

Back from the dead, might have some pics over the weekend as ill be at work sat/sun/mon working overtime putting those fire panels on the MSP cruisers. Some pics of the new plates and new cruisers is in order including the 1967 Ford.

License got suspended for a month, probation for a yr and a hell of a fine.

Posted by: Sniper

what fire panels ?

Posted by: bluej511

the ones that go over the gas tank, its a cheaper method of fire suppresion

See the video for yourself, actually works very well
http://www.mega-technical.com/html/prod-firepanel.html

Posted by: Q5POS

So is this standard equipment now or is it a special order/request per each department? Either way, its a good idea!

Posted by: bluej511

Special order as of MSP, Ford does make a fire supression but its 5000$, they also make bullet proof doors for 2500$ each lol.

This is subsentially less and works just as well.

The only ones i know of that have it right now is the MSP and the Pike has the one from Ford

Posted by: bluej511

that 07 Maxima might be one of em as well lol saw that here a week or 2 ago, very nice looking car.

Here are a couple pics
1 Before the fire shield

2 After the fire shield

state got so nice stuff! nice photos

New plate design???

Posted by: bluej511

for 2007, i dunno if the old cruisers will be changed as well but these look good, i saw the original probably a yr ago when they were planning it, i think this is much better

Posted by: MM1799

I dont totally hate the new plates, I like the blue numbering.
But, I think the Massachusetts - Official plates look more professional. These new ones look cartoonish. Just my opinion.
I think the new plates would be nice to put on the cruisers when they are showcased at a car show or something.

Posted by: Andy0921

I like the American flag on those new plates.

Posted by: bluej511

Idk i think its osmething about not wanting to be Official but it should just be State Trooper since official is also used on state cars and what not. Idk i just love the color and design i think its pretty neat. I thought the law said the numbers had to be red lol

As if the words "STATE POLICE" on the trunk didn't give that away. Or, if they are issued to unmarked, the spotlight/blue lights in the rear window doesn't give a clue as to who is driving the cruiser. Although, I have had people miss the blue lights and spotlight and tailgate me... so you never know.
Like I said, they look sharp. But I can think of a lot of other things that need immediate attention; other than a new plate design.
Nice pics, by the way.

Posted by: Curious EMT

Not feelin the new plates. Kinda micky-mouse looking with "State Trooper" on there.

The old ones were more elegant looking. Sharp, professional, and to the point.

How does that fire supression system work? Is it just a "blanket"? Or does it contain a fire-retardant substance that is released upon impact? Tried looking around, cant find much on the net about how it specifically works. Good to see MSP is doing something to protect their guys' butts...

Posted by: bluej511

They've been doing it since 05 i believe, its fire-panel.net or something like that lol it contains a fire retardant powder just like the ford one just a whole lot cheap and not as advanced i guess you could say. I like this one personally better because the ford one a button has to be pressed, in case there is a fire or not but what if the officer gets knocked out and cant press the button lol

Hey Blue

What happened to the knuckle head that dropped the new MSP unmarked off the flatbed on Wednesday?

Posted by: bluej511

nothing, it was actually the persons fault who loaded it but im not gonna get into details or say names but it could have been worse.

I actually just got home from putting more fire panels on the blue birds

Posted by: Sniper

You working OT to install those Vic ????????

Posted by: bluej511

Yea just trying to get em done, i worked last sat and sun and did a couple on thursday while they were getting inspected, did about 25 today with the other guy and hoping to do at least a dozen tomorrow.

Sucks getting there since i have no license, my dad has to drive me but im there from 8-6ish sat and sun. But hey gotta get things done you know

Posted by: Sniper

Cool........... Glad the MSP is that hot to get them installed.

Posted by: bluej511

Well all the greybirds are already done, theres probably around 20 or so blue-birds done so we're just trying to get em done as fast as possible, working during the weekends helps getting them done quicker instead of using our lifts during shop hours and tying up a lift during the week.

Hey bluej, you got any pictures of the '07 that are on the lot? Just curious as to what they look like this year. Are the grey cars the same shade of color as last years?

Posted by: bluej511

the grey birds are the same and so are the blue birds the pic i posted with the new plate is an 07

Posted by: SinePari

I just got rid of my 2001 with over 150K miles, gave it to a new guy , and got an '04 with 70K on it. Nice ride and as long as the gas card works, no complaints.

Posted by: OutOfManyOne

Actually the grey 07s are not the same tungsten grey as 06s. It went back to 03-5 type of grey.

Posted by: bluej511

dam sine they didnt give u a new cruiser? well thats some BS right there....all the greys look the same to me lol i just love Ford quality control and some of the shit brand new cars have its just hilarious

We were hoping, but the goal posts got moved again. The teaser was that I had to drive through the yard past all the new ones to find mine .

Sine it sounds like there was not enough ass kissing on your part.

Awww man sine! The 07's are HUGE improvement over the 04

Atleast the 04's are more comfortable than the 01's.

I actually preferred the 2005 to the new 2007. I especially don't like the new dashboard, and I'd love to know why a car with an automatic transmission needs a tachometer.

And is it me, or do the 2007's have a smaller gas tank? It seems to suck a lot more fuel than the 2005's.

And Sine....I'm not trying to rub it in. With so many different drivers and running 24/7, my 2007 will be in worse shape than your 2004 within a year.

Agreed.....the 2004> seats are a huge improvement.

Posted by: SinePari

Like I said before it beats walking, and nobody is trying to blow me up (yet).

Posted by: bluej511

All automatics from Ford have a transmission especially the Diesel super duty, i like the fact that there is a tach but i hate the fact that they took the voltmeter gauge off.

Same gas maybe you should need to lay off the drive-by-wire gas pedal haha lol jk jk

The seats from 03+ suck there still collapsing, ive got brand new cars with 5kmi+ that you get in the car and it feels like your sitting in a corvette.

Let me tell you something, I don't care if it is a Ford Diesel Super Duty or a Toyota, if I buy an automatic vehicle I absolutely insist that it comes with a transmission. I have experience with this- I once bought a Dodge and went to drive it off the lot and all it would do is rev, but never move!

Posted by: Andy0921

I like the 06-07's better. I like the new gauges, even though the tact isn't needed, I think they look better than the old gauges. IMO, the charger and magnum have the worst gauges. I found them to be very hard on the eyes at night.

I have only heard short people complain about the new seats.

The 09 will have very good seats made for police officers

How come it won't let me edit my typo?

We haven't had that problem at all, the general consensus is that the new design seats are a huge improvement, especially the bigger headrests.

The 2007's come with power adjustable seats, which killed the last complaints from the height-challenged among us.

Posted by: bluej511

ive seen many 05-07 for the MSP i believe there all auto seats, i think it might be the overweight killing the seats so idk lol weve probably had 2-3 a week

Posted by: Andy0921

What makes the charger "police edition" seats so much better?

Posted by: bluej511

more foam hahaha idk ill have to check it between both of em..

We actually have a couple interesting vehicles in the shop this week, one is already gone and 2 are still here.

Posted by: Andy0921

I would like to try out those Pro Copper police seats.
