Probation ordered for former officer DUDLEY — Former Southbridge Police Sgt. Norman H. Brodeur has been placed on pretrial probation until May 31, and ordered to comply with any court orders.
Judge Robert L. Howarth ordered the probation, without a plea or finding, on June 1 in Dudley District Court.
Mr. Brodeur had been charged with violating an abuse prevention order, which had been issued Jan. 23 by Worcester Probate Court, by contacting his estranged wife by telephone.
The investigation into whether he had violated the restraining order began Feb. 8, when Mrs. Brodeur telephoned Southbridge Police Chief Daniel Charette and alleged that her husband had violated the court order on multiple occasions. A 29-year veteran of the Southbridge police force, Mr. Brodeur resigned April 12.
