(Shirley, MASS - AP) - State and local police are searching for an escaped prisoner.
Authorities say 32-year-old Kwaum Rivera walked away from the minimum security prison in Shirley last night.
He was in prison on nonviolent drug charges, and was eligible for parole in nine months.
State and local police were searching for him this morning. A Department of Correction fugitive apprehensive team also was looking for him.
Rivera's last known address was in Greenfield.
Rivera is described as black, 5-foot-8, weighing 240 pounds.
DOC spokeswoman Diane Wiffin says Rivera will face escape charges, which could lengthen his jail time.
She says when caught, Rivera will be transferred to a higher-level security prison.
