Yup, June 14th is his last day. He was told to quit or be fired. Gee, I wonder if now he knows what it feels like. Probably not but at least he doesn't have the power to destroy anyone else's life. People in that department with 25 years allegiance to the college were let go because of his tyrannical, controlling ways. He was a disturbed dictator. Sad part is that it was allowed to happen. BYE BYE BILLY!!

I worked for Merrimack College Police Services for a brief time, and was continually amazed at the incompetence of Bill Mayrose. During the two years Bill Mayrose was chief, about 60 people left the department. While Bill Mayrose was chief, he accomplished nothing. I would bet that Mayrose never works in law enforcement again, because people realize that Mayrose really is a moron. I think Mayrose would be better suited for a career in mall security. Bill Mayrose is the biggest joke is law enforcement.

I'm not looking to spread rumors but I heard that Merrimack is replacing their PD with contract security. Bad move in my opinion. Does anyone know if this is true ?

The new guy was in charge of the state police branch at logan airport. A great guy who won't take any nonsense. He has a big clean up job to do but he is the type who will do it and do it well.

Another Campus PD Chief's job going to a former Trooper, that seems to be the growing trend now.

New chief of Merrimack College police has a familiar face

By Jim Patten
Staff Writer

There's a new sheriff at Merrimack College, and he's no stranger to local law enforcement officials.

Ronald Guilmette, a 31-year-veteran of the Massachusetts State Police and Salisbury resident, assumed command of the 28-member campus police department Monday.

"I'm thrilled to be here and be part of the Merrimack community," Guilmette said of his new job. "This is a great opportunity for me at this point in my career."

Guilmette is no stranger to the area. The 58-year-old retired from the state police in 1999 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his last year as a state trooper, he went on detached duty from the state police and served as the interim police chief for the Lawrence Police Department, handing the reins of that department over to now police Chief John Romero.

He has been teaching criminal justice classes at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and has also been working with the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute, which offers training programs for police administrators.

As head of police at the private college serving 2,150 students in North Andover, Guilmette says he will make it a priority to educate students about the dangers of drinking. He said for many students, it is their first time away from home and their first brush with alcoholic beverages.

"It's a wonderful, safe campus with a good police department. My goal is to make it better, drawing on my 35 years of experience," he said.

Guilmette said the campus has no major problems beyond the occasional laptop computer stolen from an unlocked dorm room or an occasional problem with student drinking.

Guilmette said he also is looking to renew the acquaintance of the local police chiefs, with whom he has worked before. Romero is looking forward to it.

"I think Ron is a great addition to Merrimack College. He brings with him a wealth of experience, not only having worked with the state police, but having spent some time in Lawrence," Romero said. "The college is very lucky. I look forward to helping him in any way I can. He was a big help to me."

Andover Lt. James Hashem, second-in-command of that department, also welcomed Guilmette's appointment.

"We worked with him when he was with the state police, and we are looking forward to enjoying the same great relationship with him now," Hashem said.

North Andover police Chief Richard Stanley hailed Guilmette's ability to work with other law enforcement agencies and the public and private sectors as well.

"He brings with him a lot of knowledge and the ability to form partnerships which is critical in his new role. We in law enforcement are very excited about him taking over."

I remember working there when there was money missing from the Evidence Room and Mayrose sent an e-mail out (I wish I saved that e-mail) accusing the Officers of taking it. The e-mail stated we will all be fingerprinted and polygraphed. The only thing was that Former Chief Mayrose forgot he put the money in his office and not in the Evidence Room. Get a clue Guy! =D>

Odd.

Not really 3 shift Sgts and a swing Sgt for evening/midnights. 2 FT officer per shift . LT one does investigations and court the other the daily operations of dept.
The shift are then manned during the school year w/ PT officers to supplement and assist the FT officers. After all this ain't Boston or Wochester, its North Andover.
