retired New Bedford Captain Ray Eugenio is an honorable man

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: jimbo

most police officers on the south shore are familiar with retired new bedford police captain Raymond Eugenio. he has been teaching at full time police academies, part time academies and for veteran inservice academies for over 20 years. he is still a man of honor. -had him recently at the annual inservice and respect him as much as ever.
Capatain Eugenio urges mutual respect between various agencies, is a proud familyman and a cop's cop. would be great if the MPA or the MCJTC could honor him in some way... he's a good man.

Capt. Eugenio is the best!

Can you imagine if every Chief/Capt/Lt/Sgt was even 1/2 as cool as him?
Shoot, I'd never leave the station except to go home to change clothes and for Christmas.

I wish he was my uncle, he'd be my favorite! I even love him more than the MSP!

I LIVE for in-service at Plymouth. Hey 40thMPOC! Lets drive brown sugar down to there and say hi to Ray! wadda ya think?

Posted by: PearlOnyx

I think of Captain Eugino everytime that I "Imbibe of the Grape" on the weekends, or if my "Proboscus" is runny.

Posted by: q5_po

"not once, not twice, but thrice!" "finding the ball pien hammer that my son made in shop class!" "the sainted sister Maria Cicillia". Ray who? Never heard of him

Posted by: MiamiVice

in your dark, dank, dirty lockup.

Posted by: wordstew

I was lucky enough to have had him in the reserve academy.

I propose that we clone him. Anyone second the motion.

Posted by: Dr.Magoo

There are some people on the job that have a gift...and the Captain is one such person.

Posted by: capefiveo

OK, call me the bad guy. Capt. Eugenio is a smart well spoken gentleman, however he's painful on a Friday at in-service. I'd much rather the active shooter scenarios on Friday. SORRY!

Posted by: Christopher

Don't let Eugenio see that last one.....he just might "pounce on you like a young puma."

Or..."strike you on the proboscus, letting the claret floweth forth onto the macadem." Just don't make him resort to using his jelly stick.

Capt. Eugenio is an amazing teacher and mentor. I agree he needs to be honored! Special Thanks to Ray for teaching me all I know...27th Plymouth Police Academy Class!!

Posted by: MatchStick

you can't very well look for a ponderous pacaderm in a bread box!

Posted by: rascal

Captain Ray introduced me to "Chourice and Chips, from Billy's Cafe", when I was in the 32nd MPOC at Plymouth. Did he not also get a .22 cal revolver when he joined the NBPD in 1964? He was a great instructor and would have us in stitches with his imitation of assaulting somone on O-ak street with his false teeth! God bless him!!!

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Gotta chime in on this one. "My 1990 Pontiac Bonneville widetrack with 200,000 miles......, Fall River, the city of mills, hills and pork pies,...........Dowager,.............I can't do this alone-no man can, help me,...................besmirched,...............he is a fine young man, just starting to get his life together,............." I could go on all day. Gil-got any favorites?

You are soooooo naughty! You have besmirched my great God! May you drink from the poisoned groundwater plume from Otis!!!

Posted by: Opie

You can why? Because you're on tap, tap, tap) "Tatta Firma". (Sorry, forgot how to spell it!)

Who's up for creating a Life Time Achievement Award for Capt. Raymond Eugenio!

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Hey MPD61! Go easy on my "sainted" Otis! (oops another Eugenio-ism) JP-8+100 isn't all that bad-just don't smoke.....MPD64-I'm with you man....LET'S GO!!!!

Posted by: Brian831

Ray is a good teacher when he is TEACHING and not getting overly involved in his "act". There is only so much BS I can take in one sitting.

Posted by: Capt. Kirk

Who could ever forget Capt. Eugenio, He is a great teacher. I loved all his witty little sayings. All the memories came back to me when i read all the other posts. What was the one he used to tell the class, to get out a fresh sheet of paper???????? AAAAHHH I can't remember. It was somthing about "get a out pristine ______ _____"...... It escapes me right now.. Does anyone recall?????

Not only is he an extrodinary man and teacher but he is a riot while doing it..... I tip my hat to Capt. Eugenio

BOO HOO I feel so sorry for you! You had to actually attend training class when you were getting paid for it.

Posted by: Officer Dunngeon

I thought the "sainted Maria Cecilia" was his wife, not his sister?

And he also used to say "pristine prophylactic". I used to think he was talking about rubbers, but wasn't he referring to a sheet of paper?

He is one funny dude. I wish him the best!

Posted by: pickels

"Don't Be Dooped"! I'll go to the grave remembering that!

Posted by: capepd

What about poor "Candy and Randy"

I can't do this alone..please help me out. I am but one and you are many

Scribe..could I have 2 young pumas please...

Feret out your Mother of all books..

Mr. Narator..could you read what it says there..

She burned the rice..she never burned the rice before..

My sainted wife...

The hammer his son made in shop class..

Anyway, that gave me a smile. Could you imagine having a fraction of his knowledge.

Hat's off to you Capt. You are the BEST there is. God Bless

My RI class 04-01 had the distinct pleasure and honor of having the Capt.

He was a riot and stickly for details. I know I was appointed as the clerk.

He bought out the shyness in all of us. I must say not all my classmates felt so heartwarming because he made them roleplay a lot and kept us to the end; however, a lot he did teach took hold.

On our last day of class, the class officers gave him a box of
Snickers (his fav) and thank you card. He was and will always be in my heart as a teacher who care about his profession.

While on memories, does anyone remember Capt. Catalona?

"Tatta Firma".

Len

Posted by: Irish Wampanoag

On case law made by said department he would say
for example

Plymouth where forth thou Plymouth. Speak are you here? Make you presence felt to us young pumas in training

and have that police department officer read the case law.

The guy is the best there is. making case law which is the most boring but one of the most important subjects to learn more tolerable with less yawns.
Capt Eugenio your the best

A little less poetic than Capt Eugenio....

"Your ass is sucking canal water"

Posted by: Webster

"The ne'r do well, making good his escape in a surreptitious and serpentine manner".

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Posted by: jimbo

if any of you are actively involved in the MPA or work with someone who is, please ask them to honor him at the next convention for lifetime achievement. he is a true icon and deserves it. EVERYONE, regardless of job, attitude or intelligence is equally respected by Captain Ray Eugenio.
two thumbs up for him

I actually was in a class with him a couple of weeks ago (Range 2000 Instructor). He is well and funny as ever.

Posted by: mountidamac

I attended the N. Reading I/R academy in 98 so unfortunately did not have the pleasure of meeting the good Captain until last year at in service. I just cant beleive that all of you who have known him for so long and so well have not mentioned his "Portugese Stew" or "Manicals".

Posted by: evidence

I'll never forget Capt. Catalino about 3 or 4 years back referring to Nantucket summer specials as "whale shit." hahahaha

Capt. Ray -"up the macadam like a fine young puma"

Posted by: Joe B

I hope he does write his book called "If The Public Ever Knew", would be a real barn-burner, by the way folks, it's Captain CARDALINO. No offense to anyone else out here on the board, I've just seen a couple of people massacre his fine Irish name

Posted by: tomahawk

Joe B, you beat me to it; I was just about to un-butcher his name for everyone.

evidence, as a retired Nantucket Summer Special, let me tell you he would refer to us as "lower than whale shit" during our training with him. Good times!

-Mike

I had the pleasure of being taught by the good Captain on two seperate occations once at an in-service put on by the college and again during the Res./Int. academy. He is truly one of the best out there. I looked forward to his class each time. Even when I had just gotten off a double and was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open he made class fun and interesting. He should be honored in some way by the MCJTC.

I believe you are correct...

By the way...Capt. Cardalino is from Wareham PD correct??

lol hey 40th not sure he would like his plate posted on a semi public BB

All I can say is that I had the pleasure of having Captain Ray Eugenio as a instructor in the Reserve Academy in Canton back in 1996. He has blessed us all with his dedication and knowledge. To have the good Captain as an instructor, and the knowledge that I learned from his teachings that helps me on the job today. Thanks Captain.

Posted by: broady150

does anyone know if he will be instructing inservice this year in april.

Posted by: DC813

The good Captain Eugenio is a true gentleman. His combination of knowledge, reality and that priceless vocabulary makes any class he teaches a pleasure. I agree he should be honored, think of the hundreds of classes he has taught to the great enjoyment and benefit of thousands of police officers of the commonwealth. Many more years Captain!!!!

Posted by: jackryan

Say that...and no more

How many more must die??

It's just a ruse, don't be duped!!

My favorite--->Get your fucking hands off me, this is not Russia

Posted by: Nighttrain

"It's too much for one man!"..."bound up the stairs like a young puma". I love how no one answers any of his questions and it degrades from, for example, "has anyone ever arrested someone?" to "does anyone here know anyone who's arrested someone?". Great guy.

In service hurts so much now that I can't even look at it as an escape from my dept. Cafeteria food at the new Foxboro site kicks ass(only upside).

Posted by: mpd61

I'll miss in-service this year. Thanks MPTC for keeping me from my "fix" of Capt. Ray

Posted by: masstoazcop

I can say is that I alos had the pleasure of having Captain Ray Eugenio as a instructor in the Reserve Academy in Canton back in 1996. Too bad their are not more instructors of his calibor out their.

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

How about...."As you were walking down the sidewalk, you looked up at the second floor window of an apartment building....you saw a 7 foot tall marijuana plant, festooned with a blue ribbon, proclaiming FIRST PLACE WINNER TOPSFIELD FAIR!!!!"

Posted by: soxrock75

I am in the Reserve Academy now and we were lucky enought to start with Capt. Eugenio for Con Law right away. I think this was the best way to start and academy with....an experienced, dedicated and funny instructor who gives his all. I hope I have the honr of attending one of Ray's classes again.

"It's too much for one man!!!"

Posted by: bozz567

I would like to add another one of the great Captain Eugenio's sayings, but I cant remember any. I guess I'm "Impotent and unable to perform"

Posted by: bozz567

I keep trying to think of more quotes of Capt. Eugenio but ive been "embibing of the grape. You know, a babbling baffoon, a mere shadow of a man, more to be pitied than envied". I also tried to get a license to carry but I couldnt because have a long, lengthy felonious record and my chief said no" And who can forget the annual dreaded "mother of all in service documents". I love it when he lines the handouts on the table and invites the class to "help themselves to buffet of knowledge". And the "thirst for knowledge that is not easily quenched"... I could keep going

Posted by: Mitpo62

I look forward to seeing him in the next academy........I hope!

Posted by: Buford T

"Wearing saddle shoes, a pink fedora with a peacock feather and a peuse shirt"

"Mills, hills and porkpies"

"Cloaked and adorned with a badge"

"In your most dulcit tones"

"Please, man, I beseech thee!!,"

Truly an exceptional human being, heres to you Capt. Ray

Posted by: skimass

"don't be duped!"

"Gird your loins"

Posted by: k12kop

The good Capt. is a genleman in the truest sense of the word! I can remember him explaining case theory but when he got to the one about the law student who only stripped to earn tuition money suing the drunk dentist for defamation after the good doctor over-imbibed one night caused him to pause and remark "surely you jest?"

Posted by: Opie

"How Many More Mr. Speaker?!"

Two new ones I heard while he was teaching in my academy class:
"Homey Don't Play That!"
"I had white eyeballs, a true sign of a seman headache!" :P

Posted by: drknyt

How do you honor a man of that caliber for all that he as done for officers every where. I say toast should be made by all everytime we all imbibe of the GRAPE.

Posted by: bjm

I am in the reserve academy now with Ray. I have a 4-year college degree and had an entire semester of Constitutional Law. I have learned just as much with Ray as I did in college. The man keeps your attention and knows exactly what to teach you and how to teach it. Best instructor I have had so far at the academy. Not enough good things can be said about him.

Posted by: jfontez

Do you have an FID? Eugenio's response (FDI I aint got no F***ing ID now get out of my way so I can buy a soda)
Where you rendered impident and unable to perform and even corpious amounts of viagra could not return you to your once fertile state.

Captain Raymond Eugenio is a man of honor. A very nice man who treats everyone with respect. He is sagacious and always pleasant- a true gentleman. I suggest that he be given recognition at the next MPA convention with a plaque showing our respect and gratitude. He has taught thousands of us and as this thread shows, done it uncommonly well. This is a man that should be emulated. A very unique person. We are fortunate to experience such an exceptional, yet modest, person. Two thumbs way up for Captain Ray Eugenio.

Posted by: Trifecta

I was giving the great opportunity to have him as my instructor in the past academy. Unfortunately this was his last. If it wasnt for the Good Captain I wouldn't have retained half of the information passed out in a "serpentine fashion". Its to bad nobody new coming through the system will not have the honor to learn from this man. If I can have half the knowledge this man has I will have no regrets as a Police Officer. Thank You Captain

My favorite was " are you impotant with knowledge? do you not know the answer? Class help him out... come on I can't do this alone... it's far too much for one man."

Posted by: PearlOnyx

Did Captain Eugeno retire from teaching?

Posted by: new guy

He has a true talent for captivating, entertaining, and teaching an audience a boring, yet important subject. He actually makes you look forward to Legal Update. An impressive feat to say the least.

Posted by: Flavor Flav!

That's "proboscis" people!

Posted by: SP880

purse your pens and cock pencils when he's around, because his information is important. Oh yeah and as he bedazzles us with his eloquence, remember that repetition is is the mother of learning, and the father too. You can't teach this stuff, it's learned at the moment of conception

mass.police association.. honor this unique and honorable man. at a minimum, give him recognition and an award, worthy of framing, at the next convention. He is top shelf. a man of true honor and dignity, a devoted husband, family man and police officer - a man of unquestionable integrity. i initiated rounds of applause for Ray Euginio after each class he taught my academy several years ago because of my admiration for this man. he has true class.
I hope this humble man,and his family, are directed to masscops.com and read this thread so that they realize how widely respected, appreciated and fondly cherished he is to hundreds of police officers in Massachusetts... probably thousands..He won't remember me, because he has taught so many of us, but I, and I suspect you, will never forget or stop appeciating him. Two thumbs way up and a tip of the hat to him.
