Does any one have or know where to obtain a list of detail rates for Massachusetts towns?

Posted by: j809

Call MAssCop if you are a member of the union or MassPolice Association.

Posted by: 2-Delta

$39 for Hanover, did one yesterday.

Posted by: danforth

Thanks Delta. I ask because I am composing a list that should be helpful to all of us. If anyone has their local info on rates it would be a great help.

Well, I often see Middlesex SD cruisers on Rt. 3 in the Lowell, Chelmsford & Billerica stretch, but I do think this belongs in the Municipal Police Forum...

$42 in topsfield, $36 in W Newbury and I think $46 in Wenham

Posted by: Mitpo62

It's just not enough. I need MORE, MORE, MORE!!

Posted by: sempergumby

34.00 Bellingham. And we use Norfolk Sheriffs at times.

Posted by: Macop

33 in Chatham

Posted by: minks8938

34 in Hubbardston and 37 in Gardner

Posted by: quality617

Jesus, look at these rates.

When I left Boston, they were at about 27 for a patrolman.

Of course, I can't DO DETAILS ANYMORE, but I'm not bitter.....

Posted by: drewpopo

$42.68 for patrolman in Ayer

Posted by: lofu

I don't know if we should be posting these on an internet forum. Imagine if a reporter from one of the Boston papers were lurking on this site.

Posted by: s1w

Are you saying that a newspaper could not get that info if they wanted to?

Posted by: lofu

No what why make it easy for them.

Posted by: s1w

It is already easy info to obtain. Just call a dept. detail office and ask.

Posted by: airforce1

MBTA Transit PD is at 33 as well.

Posted by: csauce777

Plympton $35, Carver $29, 30 w/booze.

Posted by: jsc06

$37/hr in braintree

I subscribe to the why publish all these on a public chat board theory.

For some odd reason, people think that a cop working an overtime shift making x amount of dollars an hour is overpaid. And yet they don't stop to think at all what the operator of that back-hoe is making on straight time, which is generally at least $50 per hour. Hell the laborers in some of the union jobs are making what we get on OVERTIME. These same people don't stop to think about the fact that we have to work more than one job to provide a good standard of living for our families. I doubt they work 60-70 hours a week.

So I figure why even bother posting what I make an hour.

Thanks Patriot, at least someone agrees with me. LOL

*cough* $36 in Norwell *cough*

Posted by: djgj200

I heard that marlborough used to have $40 but they went to their overtime rate last fall. The patrolman's hourly rate ranges anywhere from just under $40 @ $39.75 to somewhere into the $50's. The Command officers starting with the Sgts make i think starting in the high $50's and go to the Capts rate in the $80 an hour range. That doesn't make those that hire detail officers very happy when they hear what they have to pay sometimes.

$37 in Bernardston

Posted by: j809

It should be a flat rate for EVERYONE, regardless of Rank. It should around $40 hr regardless if you are a Captain. And WTF is a Captain working details for anyways?

It's pretty common for supervisors to have a higher detail rate, if they're acting in a supervisory capacity.

The way we do it.....if it's just a sergeant at a one-man Verizon job, they get the same detail rate as a patrol officer. If a sergeant is supervising 5 patrol officers on detail, then a higher rate applies.

road jobs- $40/hr ( minimum 4 hours; 8 hour minimum after 4 hours)
$60/hr after 8 hours
$60/hr between the hours of 11PM and 7AM
$60/hr on Saturdays
$80/hr on Sundays

Strike details- $100/hr

all other jobs- $40/hr

I know, my dad (one of the officers on the dept.) was probably the strongest opponent to that. Most of the officers on the dept are obviously money hungry. When guys go up to my dad asking for a detail officer, he tells them to ask for a patrol officer if they have the man power to supply him with one because of the rates they would have to pay for a detail officer.

I think if the detail is cancelled an hour or less before the job is supposed to start, the officer gets the 4 hour minimum.

O302 ???!!!! Where is this ???? I find those rates very hard to believe.. for your own future veracity, please state what p d gets those rates so it can be checked out - you're veracity is on the line.

Those rates are not uncommon at all, actually they are pretty low compared to other PDs in my area. Our rate is $35 with 8hrs after 4 and OT after 8. Westford is $50 an hour. We are in the process of negotations, so the rate will increase.

Not at all unrealistic. Time and a half after 8, time and a half on Saturday, double time on Sunday/holidays. It is very common to use some form of doubling the detail rate for strike details. Anyone who has worked strike knows that there is a special set of circumstances that goes along with them. We also charge a set fee if a cruiser is requested (payable to the city, of course).

Oh no!...not my future veracity...what shall I do!...sounds to me like the person who started this thread was simply collecting data for bargaining purposes...I was simply providing my detail rates for his research:

straight detail rate; time and a half detail rate for nights, Saturdays, and over 8 hours; double time rate for Sundays, double time and a half for strike details (hazardous duty pay)

So, if you've been "checking out" all these detail rates, who's been chasing around the little yellow bird?

Lest any of you forget how good you have it, down here in NC, our minimum pay is $23, with most jobs paying that. The better jobs are $25, and if you're very lucky and know the right people, you can find a select few jobs that pay $35.

I'm looking at your rates and tasting bile...lucky bastards!

Yeah but lets not forget the cost of living. I'm trying to save for a house and where I'm looking the median CONDO price is around $250,000. I'd bet I could get a pretty large house down in NC for that price. Sorry I'm ranting a little bit, just getting frustrated that's all.
