Anyone out in the far reaches of the state, say, Pittsfield? I have an officer out there, and he's been having trouble with his pager lately. It's Arch Wireless (Now USA Mobility) and I am less than thrilled with their response to my request for a tech call. Basically, he's suddenly not getting his pages, and their response is "He probably needs a new pager."

No, I don't think so.

I am looking for a more reliable pager service out 'that way'. Anyone?

I use these guys when I need reliable pagers in Pittsfield. They have answering service as well and they will find you.

Why a pager and not a Cell phone/Nextel?

Posted by: SOT

Ummm you think paging is bad, try cell service in Western MA.

He does have a regular cell phone, which is spotty at best. Nextel service is almost non-existent out there.

Will do. Thanks.

Yeah, Cingular is basically the sole service that works well in MOST of the areas. Still TONS of dead spots. Many of the small towns will NOT allow towers to go up. If you travel west on the pike Nextel WILL work as the network is pretty much 100% ON THE PIKE. Once you get off, forget it.

I have Verizon and I have rarely any problems. The only time my sevice was really on the fritz was when I was in the middle of the mountains in VT. and even then I had 1 bar alot of the time.

It's not just out west...I was at the Quabbin Friday and did not have cell service (Verizon)...and my pager (Arch) didn't work there, either.

dcs, in our area, Cingular is the way to go.

This may sound kind of silly. I would buy a used newer cingular phone or whatever has better coverage according to the maps. That way you could call 911 if the shit hit the fan for help if your radio and or regular cell phone provider wasn't working. 911 works for free on all the cell phones. Western MA is very spotty, and we're not talking about Springfield here talking about Florence, Hawley, Great Barrington, North Adams, etc.

Check to make sure he does not have a pager operating in the 800 MHz range. They just don't work out here. My issued pager operates in the 152 MHz range and works well.
