MSP: Experiences with Mass. State Parole Officers??

I am sure many of you know that Mass. State Parole Officers have a dual role of Re-Entry caseworker and Special State Police Officer (SSPO). Hi Troopers, just wondering if any of you have had any experiences with Mass. State Parole Officers?? When serving warrants? Just out in the community? Task force (drug, gang, fugitive) work? Any experiences any of you have had would be greatly appreciated. Positive or Negatve.

Thanks, Snapdog

P.S....wasn't sure where else to put this post, I figured that if any agency had contact with Mass. State Parole it would probably be MSP....

I'm not a Trooper or a Parole Officer, but my friend who is a parole Officer said he has a very good relationship with the State Police. Mainly, because when they serve a warrant the Trooper's pretty much take care of it for them.

Hey Snapdog,
Any truth to the rumor they they are going to finally merge Parole and Probation? The two jobs are so close anyway why not cut out the extra agencys, merge budgets and arm Probation as well? By the way....My experiences have been that Parole and Probation have always had an excellent relationship with all police not just MSP. Mostly warrants and home visits.

I have no idea...2 totally different jobs. Probation is totally political, Parole you actually have to take a civil service exam, do well and have a related background. I worked as a Probation Officer for a year and hated it. I never left my office or the courtroom, you are basically a clerk in the courtroom (AKA...a suit). With Probation, no SSPO powers, unarmed, and an accident just waiting to happen. Verbal judo and that's it for Probation Officers. Forget about it. Parole is civil service and Probation is not. I don't see them ever merging in my lifetime. Parole also has Group 4 retirement, the Heart Bill, and an education incentive. Probation has nada. I noticed that Mass State Parole has members on the Boston FBI Fugitive Task Force according to the FBI Boston Website.
