Officer Was Subdued With Taser

A retired Newport police officer won't face felony charges for a fight outside police headquarters.

Thomas Zeigler was subdued with a Taser stun gun after he got into a fight with an off-duty police officer in August.

Zeigler was cutting through the station's rear parking lot to get to a car when an off-duty officer confronted him. The two began to fight, and Zeigler was later restrained by a Taser gun.

The state attorney general's office said a felony assault charge against Zeigler isn't warranted because the officer was in plainclothes and off-duty at the time of the fight.

The Newport Police Department said it will still pursue misdemeanor charges of simple assault, obstruction and resisting arrest against Zeigler.

Newport. Figures.

Not only do they lock up cops from other departments, now they're locking up their own.

Obviously there is a long and sordid story behind this one.
