A Good Samaritan is partly to thank for the capture of a suspect who tried to take money from a man at the Sovereign Bank on Winter Street in Boston’s Downtown Crossing neighborhood Tuesday night.

According to police, a 51-year-old man was approached by a Felix Pierre, 27, of Somerville while making a deposit at the bank’s safety deposit box. The victim told police that Pierre came in from behind and grabbed the bag of money.

After a struggle, the victim was able to recover the bag.

Police say Pierre then stabbed the victim above the eyebrow with a screwdriver when he refused to comply with his demands to hand over the money.

A person nearby saw the attack and jumped on the suspect – holding him down with the help of the victim until police arrived.

Pierre, who has three outstanding warrants, will be arraigned on Wednesday at Boston Municipal Court on several charges -- including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed robbery.

According to Boston Police, the victim was transported to Mass General Hospital. His injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
