I was on the bad side of Pittsfield, MA and saw an MSP K9 unit....is that new or has it always been around? I'm guessing that's out of Cheshire?

The K-9 units aren't assigned to individual barracks, they float around the troop/troops. That K-9 unit you saw could have been responsible for all territory west of 495 that night.

The job is training more K-9 Troopers, so hopefully we'll have a K-9 in each troop 24/7, not just one in the east and one in the west.

Six more have been trained recently...with three more coming on board soon...as far as I'm concerned K-9's are the best part of special operations...they should put on another hundred...

There was some fine work conducted by MSP K9 in Newton in the wee hours this morning. Well done!

I didn't get all the details of the capture, but it took them a while to get him - at least a couple hours.

The most important thing is that the suspect was apprehended.

It's not uncommon, there are four MSP handlers and 5 dogs that live within 10 miles of your house.

I was actually refering to his dogged determination to get him, not that it took too long.

We have about 35 fully online now in the troops, we have 6 more about to start next week..they wont be fully online until August. Troop Fat the Airport has their own FAA bomb sniffers, the SP side of the fire marshalls office has both explosive detection and accellerant (arson) dogs.

About 40% of my missions are for outside agencies. We didn't physically get the guy in Newton, we were always behind him trying to catch up..we were on the wrong side of a tall fence trying to figure out how to get around it when he got grabbed on the other side by the perimeter guys from Newton. Sometimes you do a great track and the bad guy is gone..left by car etc. Sometimes you do an average track and get the reward of a bad guy in the woods. The important thing is you always get the bad guy. Nothing better than grinding out a track where you run the bad guy into the ground and he just gives up and quits because he thinks you are crazy following him through swamps. Nothing worse than quitting before he does..never give a rat that satisfaction of thinking he outlasted or out worked you...
