Hello everybody, new member here.

I have no police experiance as of yet. Right now I work full time as a "loss prevention detective" full time.

I've been wanting to do police all my life, but I need to get a good start, with my full time schedual. I have no degree, so I was looking into academy.

Anyone have a good place I can look into in western Mass? looking for a couple days a week, nights preferably, and hopefully cheap.

Godfather, I would suggest trying to get sponsored to the Reserve/Intermittent Academy. This academy will qualify you to get on an Auxiliary/Reserve force to get your foot in the door which is especially useful in a non-civil service department. However, you do need a department to sign the application ( this may be difficult to get, my suggestion to you would be to try and find a department near you with an Auxiliary Department as they may be more likely to sign the application ). The academy is usually 3 nights/week as well as all-day on Saturday for 12 weeks I believe. Here is a link to the MPTC site which lists the various academy locations as well as other helpful info : http://www.mass.gov/mptc/reserveschedule.htm. The cost is usually around $300 for the academy plus books ( which vary according to instructor ). Hope this helps, and good luck!!

2 more questions.

Which Application are you refering to?

Can I go to a diffrent police department, or the department of the town I reside in only?

I believe the application you would need can be found by clicking the "Forms" tab, located towards the top of the window in the link I posted earlier. There is a list of forms, you want the In-Service ( once you open it you will see on the top it states it is for Reserve, In-Service and Specialized Training). As far as which department to go to, I would try your hometown first, as it may help that you are a citizen, it depends on the Chief. If you have any difficulty getting a signature, offer to sign some sort of Waiver of Liability form ( this doesn't always work but sometimes departments get concerned with liability and this is enough to get the signature). If your town won't do it, send letters/call other surrounding departments and don't give up, eventually you will get a break. Once again, good luck!!
