PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- A Volusia County sheriff's deputy and his girlfriend died in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday morning.

The Port Orange Police Department said it was responding to a report of a verbal disturbance at about 5:40 a.m. when officers discovered the bodies of Ronald Edmour Vachon, 24, and Kendra Leigh Early, 24, in an apartment on Floral Springs Boulevard.

The bodies were found in Vachon's apartment at the Legacy at Crystal Lake apartments, WESH 2 News reported.

Investigators said both people had wounds consistent with being shot with a firearm, and officers are treating it as a murder-suicide. So far, officials have not said who shot whom.

Vachon was a police officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department for three years before being hired by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in February. Varchon was enrolled in the sheriff's office's in-house training program for newly-hired deputies. The Field Training and Evaluation Program began on Feb. 21 and is scheduled to conclude on April 30, officials said.

He is originally from Leominster, Mass. Early lived in DeBary.
