The Puyallup Police department has launched a new Internet tool that will make it easier for police officers and citizens to catch suspects. Dubbed "Info-Net," the program relies on real-time email Crime Alerts and citizen tips.
Police Chief Robin James said Info-Net will help engage citizens when crime happens in their neighborhoods or business areas.
"By sharing information in real time, we can get a head start in not only catching a perpetrator, but also stopping crime from happening," James said. "We might not be able to stop the initial crime, but with Info-Net and Crime Alerts, we should be able to reduce the likelihood of subsequent crimes."
Crime Alerts will typically consist of specific crime series or crime trend information, any suspect description, crime prevention tips to raise citizen awareness and keep them from becoming victims of the criminal activity, and a request for citizen assistance with information pertinent to the incident or investigation.
