I did a search and found nothing usefull.

Anyone have any inside info on this department thats not on the website?

I received the letter to appear for the physical next month, and while its a long way from the Academy (If I even get there) I figured I would start my research now.

Thanks in advance

What do you want to know? Its like any other big city. Lots of different units, lots of room for advancement.
When is your test? I was hoping to get to their physical class today, but Im stuck at work.

The website says they pay you 7.00 and change while you are in the academy. The only way people can do that is if:

1.) You are independently wealthy.
2.) You have no financial responsibility in life.

I also heard that even if you graduate from the academy you are not guaranteed a job. At least when I looked into it a few years ago it was like that.

How does RI do their academies is it as F*&ked up as ours here in Mass?

wow...the money went up. When I was looking into their PD, it was minimum wage in the academy.

In Rhode Island there are three academies. Providence P.D, State Police and Municipal Police departments. Some Municipal departments pay the minimum while other pay probationary pay.
Providence P.D is having a big push to hire minorities because Mayor Vaseline(I mean they mayor) is appealing to his political audience. Good Luck.

When I was gonna apply it was $4.45 per hr, years ago.

You should probably contact them directly on the particulars but I think they use to go to the academy at night so you could work your day time jobs, thus, the reason for the low pay. There is a new chief and new admin, so the academy might be run during the day now. The new chief is a lawyer and former chief w/ a dept in ct, the admin are all new accept for 1 I think.

The former mayor is in federal prison, the former chief and capt might lose their pensions for corrupt behavior and cheating on promotional exams.

From what i hear, the mayor is on a big push to hire hispanics and women, so much so that testing tutorials on the written, PT and oral exams are being done in their native languages.

But, that is what he wants to put on and even though a GED is all thats needed, its not often what makes it through the process...

It is a day full-time academy, has been since at least 2000.

From PPD web site:
Quote:

Basic Salary
Recruit: Minimum wage during the Training Academy

The Providence Police Training Academy Is located at 200 Chad Brown Street. Recruits attend classes Monday through Friday from 0700 hours to 1600 hours. However, some nighttime and weekend classes are included as necessary. Recruits do not reside at the Academy and must commute to class daily. The Academy involves over 800 hours of training.

Further information can be obtained by calling the Providence Police Department TRAINING ACADEMY at 401-243-6009.
Yea, Chad Brown is the nastiest projects in town. Probably better off car-pooling with someone that drives a shit-box, or park out of the city and take the bus.

I was wondering if anyone had any information about Providence RI Police Department. I know that the pay is low in the academy, but any other info would be helpful. Pay, OT, contract etc. Thanks.
