REMARKS: This is a career/career conditional appointment with a full-time (40 hours per week) work schedule. This position requires a completion of a 1-year trial/probationary period. AREA INFORMATION This position is located with Boston National Historical Park located in the Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts. Temperatures range from 90 degrees or more in the summer and from zero to below in the winter. Public transportation is available in the City of Boston. There is no Government housing available and rentals and homes are expensive. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are not authorized.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is assigned to the Communications Center with the Division of Protection at Boston National Historical Park. The incumbent serves as a dispatcher for a complex operation that ensures clear, effective communication during law enforcement incidents, emergency situations, and day-to-day telephone and radio operations. Incumbent operates an intrastate law enforcement communication system, a multi-channel radio console system, a Motorola 1000+ Nextel pager system, a Dictaphone Digital Communications Recording System and other general computer programs. Accountable for a variety of support functions such as processing violation notices, compiling statistics and processing law enforcement reports related to case/criminal incidents, violation notices, emergency medical services and impound inventory forms.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position is subject to shift rotation. Position is subject to a one-year trial/probationary period. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Occasional travel may be required. Upon consideration of all qualified candidates, a tentative selection will be offered pending the successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Application must possess one year of specialized experience specified below, or the substitutable undergraduate study as specified below, or an equivalent of the two, as of the closing date of the announcement in order to receive consideration.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of progressively responsible specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular rating factors (knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be qualifying, it must have been comparable in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of a least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position. (For GS-5, you must possess one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-4 level of difficulty.)
SUBSTITUION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPIERENCE: Four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours related course work. Related course work is required when substituting education for specialized experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying.

HOW YOU WILL BE RATED: Ratings will be based on an evaluation of your experience as it relates to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) listed below. Qualified candidates will be assigned a score between 70 and 100, not including points that may be assigned for veteran’s preference. Failure to address the KSAs will be result in a low score.
