Tattos legal for Mass State Trooper?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Im a CJ major at U mass Lowell, and a couple of the kids in my class have said that to be a Mass State Trooper, you cant have any tattos at all, anywhere, hidden or not. Is this true or just a myth?

Posted by: policelaborlaw.com

Not true. I know several troopers with tattoos.

Tattoos, piercings, earrings, and other forms of "ornamentation" are becoming an issue in some agencies.

Cerrtainly not illegal, but a swastika on your forehead might be frowned upon.

I think that this rule applies to some Fed jobs....FBI, CIA etc.

I was just reading some of the older 'State Police' thread and I found one on this exact topic:

Just a little more information to add to this one.

Back in the day (early seventies) tats below the elbow disqualified a citizen from entering the academy. Now, however, you may be as big a scumbag as you want. I don't care about your tats, piercings, etc. Stay away from me. I'd rather die than have a tattooed scumbag save my life. Tattoos=scumbag. Just my two cents. Tat boy.

Umm yea, is there any particular reason for the hatred?? And for my 2 cents, I have 2 tats -- one on each arm above the elbow and I can say that everyone that knows me thinks that I am a nice person that is willing to go the extra mile for people. Just because a person has tats doesn't mean that they are a scumbag.

What a moronic post by dcs2244, I'm hoping it's in jest because if it isn't he's an idiot.

So, you'd question your rescuer if they are 'too'd and say "no thanks, I'd rather burn?"
Does that go the opposite way? Would you not save someone because they have tatoos?

Relax. Of course I'd welcome your help...just as I would help you. If you want to catch crap in the academy...go with a tattoo. There is plenty of time to get inked once your on the job. I doubt that not being painted "now" is going to adversely affect your life.

I think that tattoos are a "personal" thing. One should keep them personal. If it shows when wearing ones uniform, it is wrong. If it shows at the beach when one is in ones trunks...or birthday suit...fine.

As far as my experience goes, I've met some great folks with tattoos, and I've met (and fought) with some that are just scumbags. The scumbags have far outnumbered the good guys, in my experience.

Tattoos are just another fad...like bobby sox, 'coon skin hats, bell bottoms, Nehru jackets, platform shoes (unless your an exotic dancer!), flat top hair cuts (and mullets). The difference is that all those things can be changed. Tats are permanent. Be discreet.

My appologies then dcs2244, but I know a great number of people that have ink and they are quality people. Plus there a number of men and women in blue who have ink.

170, 198 or 225 CID?

Posted by: Mikey682

I have this wicked cool butterfly on my lower back.

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

The almighty 225 SUPER SIX!!!! Could you handle one, Dave?

Posted by: atrain104

Agree, they are a personal thing and keep everything I have, which is a lot , concealable with short sleeves. A "fad" though, I wouldnt go so far as to say that and if it is a fad it dates pretty far back ...well far back if you consider since 12,000 years BC old. They have a different purpose in every culture.

If you stick with that view then about 90% of the United States Armed Forces (or at least USMC and Army) are scumbags.

what I think dcs2244 is trying to say about a fad is that within the last ten years or so tattoo's

really have exploded on society wheres before that, mostly bikers and "scumbags" had tattoo's. personally dont judge this book by its cover because you are sorely mistaken.
I have many tattoo's and many more are on the way.
