I am looking for those of you that have a law firm representing you, not an established union. I am looking for feedback as to how that is working for you.

Our patrol officers and officers of rank unions use Harold Lichten out of Boston. He does an above average job and has won some major battles for others and us.
I'd also suggest speaking with Brian Simoneau out of Framingham.

Northeastern University PD was using the Law Offices of Timothy Burke (SPAM's lawyer), It was working out well while I was there, but that was 6 yrs. ago.

We're independent, and if you're large enough to swing it, that's the way to go. You can choose your own lawyers, how far you want to take grievances, etc., without meddling from the national office.

For a law firm, we use Angoff, Goldman, Manning, Wanger, & Hynes, which is at 45 Bromfield Street in Boston, and we've been very happy with them. The number is 617-723-5500.

Bubba,

Essex County Correctional Officer's Association (ECCOA) is their own independant union. The use their own lawyer, if I remember correctly, his name is Howard Leno. You can find their information at www.eccoa.org . I no longer work there, but I was a steward for the last year or so before I left. A good bunch of guys.

We have an independent union as well . . . seems to work pretty well. It makes most problems easier to deal with, however, if you don't agree with the officers that were elected to the E-Board, you don't have much recourse.
