I just turned 20 in Feb. I was called in for screening in Oct, and was passed over for a reason I dont know since I still have not got a letter of denial. I have been talking with the woman who runs HR lately at the DOC, and she has me coming back in on the 3rd for a May 15 academy. I am right now in FL and will have a Florid Deparment of Law Enforcement certification in Corrections in 4 weeks, with a 532hr academy under my belt. I also have 70 college credits. I dont know now how I wont get on...Any better got any suggestions to help my approach in the oral interview to win them over?

McCarthy,

Stay in Florida buddy! I know personally, I'll never go back to Mass. I know the pay is a lot less, as far as corrections goes, but when you figure in the lower cost of living (excluding South Florida) and no state income tax, you're doing pretty good all things considered =)

I haven't had a "real" interview ever and wondered this same thing. I recently went through a mock interview with the Chief of the RIPA. I was told to be myself and NEVER change any answer you give because they (the interview board/panel) may try and get you to change your answer. Good luck dude!

I graduated from the academy in November. Things are going pretty well, overtime is there if you want it and the money is good. Any questions? I'd be glad to answer them.

To add what another poster said, if you're already a Florida CO, why are you looking to leave to get back into the same position in MA? Doesnt FL DoC have that special risk pension where you get 75% after only 25 yrs.

With the lower cost of living, better weather and the ability to improve yourself by more opportunities in FL DC, will MA will an improvement.

I am just getting my certification in FL to get my associates finish where I missed a semester out of HS last year. So I get 28 credits for the training, and I wanted the training to help me out for MA. I dont live in FL my mom does and I am only here feb-apr, no intentions of ever staying here. My gf/ wife soon is there and all my family. I am just doing what I can to get the job, because they never even told me what happenend in my last interview in Oct for the Jan academy that is finishing April 6.

I have a question regarding the Mass Corrections academy. I'am not much or a runner, i know i can pass the entry. I want to know how much running is done in the academy. I'am a defensive end and can sprint fast, but i hate running for distance. And i know i have to learn to love running.

We do all types of PT........formations runs, calisthetics, circuit training, team building PT. It's not all just straight running all the time. PT is everyday in the morning and most days is fun. As for distance, you'll have to find out for yourself...........gotta leave some things for surprise when you get to the Academy.

Good Luck!

Right on.........How'd the move teams work out for ya today?

Hmm, seems they've chanaged up the crew at the academy quite a bit. Both of the Gonsalves' were there when I went through, but not the rest. I heard that quite a few of them transferred after our academy went through.

DI Fuller is a guest instructor, usually at Walpole. DI Bristow is also a guest, usually at Concord. Both are squared away and full of info. All the DI's have been awesome.......we're just getting to the point where they are letting up a little and the smiles are starting. Graduation April 6th

Don't forget to ask Instructor Stancombe why is he wearing BDU's at graduation when he is a CPO. And Perez is hot huh! I loved it when she yelled in spanish. Sexy

They went alright. On my move Bristow gave up as soon as we walked in, so I didn't get to tussle with anyone. Damn!!!
