Duties: In this position you will serve as Traffic Accident Investigator/Police Officer with primary responsibility for law enforcement, accident investigation, crime prevention, community relations and traffic control. You will enforce Federal, State, and county criminal laws, procedures, orders, directives, regulations, ordinances, etc. which involve the protection of human lives, civil rights, and property. You will be the investigating officer responding to vehicle accidents. As such, you will gather and analyze facts, preserve evidence, take measurements, prepare diagrams, and interview witnesses and persons involved. You will respond to, and conduct, preliminary investigations relating to felonies, misdemeanors and other criminal acts such as grand larceny, rape, sabotage, espionage, armed robbery, attempted murder, assaults, complaints of domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, etc. In addition, you will conduct traffic studies and surveys.

General Schedule <LI>SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To be qualified, candidates for this job must show in their resume that they have training or experience in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of investigative interviewing techniques and other information gathering methods and techniques sufficient to permit the establishment of information for suspects. 2) Knowledge of traffic studies/surveys used to improve vehicle flow, reduce accidents, and improve the overall traffic management of the various installations. 3) Ability to subdue individuals causing disturbances, such as in family disputes. 4) Ability to identify and arrest violators based on eyewitnesses accounts. 5) Skill in seeking, detecting, and protecting evidence and witnesses at the scene of an incident. IN ADDITION: You must be certified in the use of radar detection equipment and alcohol detection equipment.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction. One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. <LI>Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
