It's a small city, population is around 45-50'000 people. The Dept has about 100 sworn Officers from top to bottom. Dept has the same problems as most do, I have a couple of friends on the Dept. pretty busy. Its located about 5-10 min north of Providence. Hope that helps a little.

Stay Safe.

Pay is a little on the low side (starting in the high 20's), but they are one of the only PD's in Little Rhodey that do not require a degree or previous military. Everyone who applies and meets the minimum requirements takes written test (nothing too strenuous) and preference points are given to people with degrees, academy certs., and former WPD Reserve Officers (kind of like auxiliaries in Mass.). Last time they took around the top 75 scores and sent them to the PAT (Cooper Test with a swim test). After that you go on a list which is good for 2 years and you are called up according to ranking. If you don't get called in 2 years you have to reapply and test again.

For the swim test, I think they take you 3 miles off the coast and give you a life vest and a pat on the back. :P

Ie the high 20s, thats a little low, thats way low compared to some other pds i saw. Barrington is 43 to start, I should have applied but oh well. Pawtucket is 50 to start, and I imagine Cranston is in that area, I guess Woonsocket is cheap, maybe ill pass on thier written if the pay is so low.

you might wanna check on the residency req. after getting hired. Some people realy don't wanna call woonsocket home. unless u really like the K2U!

Posted by: Irishpride

According to the city's town charter all residency requirements for city employees were repealed 2 years ago.

Did anyone on this board apply for this Dept. If so and you don't live in RI you may want to visit www.woonsocketpolice.com there is some importiant info that you need to know.

Most department's in RI have their probationary patrol officers in the low 30's. Most department in Rhode Island are in the mid to low 40's for police officers.

I just caled to confirm that I would be taking the test. I then asked if they take out-of-state laterals and the Lt said no, I then said thanks but no thanks. Seemed like he took it personally.
