"NEWS PHOTOG" plates

Hi all, wasn't sure where to post this but was very curious if anyone has seen one before. On the left-hand side of the plate there was " NEWS PHOTOG", with a few numbers to the right of it. Have any of you seen this before? I found it kind of odd.

Yes these are real plates and are often used by the media primarily newspaper photographers.

masscops is just so educational

I think the RMV is replacing them with "please steal the camera equipment in my trunk" plates some time this year.

I like the house and senate plates myself. These politicians are just asking for trouble!

Not too far from the truth. Most of the guys that work at the stations in Boston use commercial plates instead. Lower profile (I know, blacked out CV with 20 scanner antennas, low profile) and the meter maids generally leave them alone in the commercial parking spots.

I find it hard to believe Meter Maids leave anybody alone I watched them ticket a cruiser from Boston. Could have been some kind of personal gripe though.

When are they going to come out with "Off Duty Police Officer" Plates? I can't wait to put them on my car.

Several states have LEO plates, available to LEO only. NJ for sure, and I think CT as well....

Seems like the thin blue line, SPAM, and MPA stickers are bad enough. I try not to advertise what I do considering some of the places I park my car.

In L.A. they not only ticket your black & white in front of the court house, they tow it! Its nice to come out after testifying and find out that your marked unit is at the tow yard. Hasn't happended to me.................yet.

I just saw this post so I thought I would throw my 2 cents in. The news photog plates go back to the days when Boston had 10 daily papers and the still photographers would ride around the city looking for something to shoot.

I believe you have to be a member of the New England Press Photographers Asociation to get one. It was designed to allow the photographers to park close to news events like fires without getting hasseled.

The TV guys all drive station owned vehicles with commercial plates. If you see a photo plate it is usually a personal car.

New York has plates for everyone, press, Judges, emt's, legislators city concilors.

A friend of mine is a State Senator and he won't put one of those Senate plates on his car. He has a regular 6 character plate, so if he cuts someone off it won't be in Howie Carr's column the next day.

How about on probation /Parole, Felon, and sex offender plates ?

Sex offender plates?

NOW where gettin somwhere!

I think the shitbags would even divert from a three-blue-line sticker, 6 antennas, blacked out, "My other car is a paddy wagon" bumper sticker, duty bag on the front seat Crown Vic that screams "I'M A COP" (or at least I'm pretending to be!) to take a crack at one of those cars!
