Hanrahan Consulting is owned and operated by Justin Hanrahan. Justin is a police lieutenant for a mid-sized police department in the greater Boston area. Justin used a technique of memorization used by many scholars and students throughout the world to master the promotional material - the flash card memorization method. Millions of students have used flash cards to quickly and easily memorize large amounts of data in a short period of time. Law students, medical students, and students learning foreign languages have successfully used flash cards to learn difficult material.

Justin used flash cards to master the textbook material for the police promotional exam and was promoted to sergeant at the age of 26 and lieutenant at the age 28. Using the flash card method Justin has never scored below a 90% on the written exam. Justin began helping co-workers and friends in law enforcement prepare for the promotional exam informally several years ago.

The problem with the flash card method is that it takes hundreds of precious hours to break the material into flash card format. Justin decided to do the work for his students and mass produce them, saving them hundreds of hours in study time.

Justin has been teaching police officers and police supervisors for many years in the area of critical incident management and policy development. Justin enjoys teaching police officers and is dedicated to improving law enforcement in the Commonwealth.

Justin is currently working on completing his law degree and plans on focusing his efforts on training law enforcement officers in the area of management and supervision, policy development, and critical incident management. Justin continues to serve the citizens of Massachusetts as a police officer and he continues to take promotional exams and improve his exam taking skills passing it on to his students.

Hanrahan Consulting also uses a variety of input from numerous police officers in the greater Boston area to keeps its material up to date and unique.

I have been a police officer for nine years and have taken two Massachusetts Civil Service Promotional Exams. The first sergeant's exam I took was in 2002, in preparation for this exam I studied for six months about four hours a day. I also attended several Pat Rodgers' and John Scheft's seminars, which I thought were not worth the money, don't waste your time. Using my methods, Rodgers and Scheft's books, and a lot of money, I ranked fifth on my department's list, and did not get promoted.

I tried my luck again in 2004. This time I changed my preparation and study techniques, with the help of Hanrahan Consulting. What a difference just in terms of studying, using Justin's flash cards, CD's, and study guides. I was able to grasp and memorize the tons and tons of information a lot quicker and easier. This guy knows what he is doing, believe me! I still put hours and hours in, however it was not a wast of time. The end result: I scored #1, and am awaiting a hopeful promotion to sergeant. No doubt about it, the difference was using Hanrahan Consulting, I can't say enough about it. Give it a shot, trust me

Posted by: StickPinQuinn

I just bought "The KItchen Sink" about a month ago - studying for the exam has never been so easy (the flash cards and CD's are awesome). I don't know if its going to make a difference or not but at least it was put together by someone who actually takes the exams.

I know Justin and I'm glad to give him my cash.

If you sign up through his website Lt. Hanrahan will send you a practice test question every day. The questions are tough and he usually explains them in detail. This is the best stuff out there right now. This guy was a lieutetant when he was liek 27 years old. Watch out Rogers and scheft.

Hanrahan just announced some training seminars...I hear they are very reasonable and he gives out an outline of all of the books. If its anything like his flashcards it will be worth it.

I'm sure where thay are being held though, I'm looking into it.

The seminars are scheduled in June at the Westford PD. I hear in one of them he gives out an outline of all the books - for FREE! Scheft charges you for everything. I registered on-line at his website www.masspromotions.us

I also bought the Kitchen Sink from Hanrahan, great information, and very reasonable prices. I think the flash cards are great. I have already used them while working details. I just signed up for Hanrahan's two day seminar. I'm glad somone else got into the promotional study aid business. Scheft and Rodgers are losing their edge, and are way to expensive.

Posted by: PinkSlip

I'm done taking exams...but If I was going to take another one I would use stuff from a guy who has proven himself on the exams like Rogers or Hanahan...not from someone who has never taken the test. Seems pretty obvious to me. Maybe Schef needs to rip off other cops because he doesn't know what it takes to do well?

Keep up the good work - I hear more and more good things about your products and seminars! It's nice to see a cop teaching cops instead of outsiders.

I was browsing MassCops last week and I found this discussion. I never heard of Hanrahan before but I checked out his site and I bought the whole package. All I can say is AWESOME! Finally someone who knows what it takes to kick ass on the exam. I am actually excited about studying You can just start calling me lieutenant now

Posted by: Sgt K

Justin Hanrahan and I are in the same semester at Mass School of Law and have previously worked together as accreditation managers so I can speak with a clear conscience about his work ethic and personality. He is an incredible hard worker, intelligent, and approachable. His goal is to provide the best affordable promotional services to the law enforcement community. Justin extracts the study material directly from the texts and formats it in a challenging fashion. To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't liberated any one else's material and attempted to sell it as his own.

As for other resources available, I choose to use Pat Roger's material when instructing the recruits at the various academies in Con. & Crim. Law. I'm aware that on occasion there are some typos in his material but I find his books are organized according to Mass General Laws and this allows for ease of use and instruction.

If you are serious about getting into studying for a promotion, I strongly suggest that you examine Justin's material.

As always, stay healthy and safe

I like Pat Rogers material as well

I believe I read somewhere that using Hanrahan's flash cards have cured cancer, anyone else hear that?

Posted by: StickPinQuinn

Yeah, Pat I think I heard that also. I believe John Scheft was telling people that.

I would just like to add that Justin is a personal friend of mine and he worked really hard to achieve all that he has. Justin got promoted at a very young age and further utilized the same methods that he is marketing today. Give Hanrahan Consulting a chance and see where it takes you. In closing, I don't work for Hanrahan Consulting, nor do I work for his department. I tell you this because I don't gain anything by posting this message. I am a Mass State Trooper and just wanted to post my views...Thanks for reading and good luck!

Hanrahan is doing a one day and a two day seminar, both in June. I'd give you the dates but you called me a dink, so look it up yourself.

I've been a police officer for over 10 years and I've been a close friend of Justin Hanrahan's for just about the same length of time. I honestly believe he's putting out a quality product that's going to help a lot of cops get promoted and do a better job on the street.

Obviously you should think that I'm biased because I'm a friend of Justin's - but I'm a friend of his because he's an honest hard working family man and I respect his approach to the job. He loves police work and I honestly believe he wants to see other cops be successful too.

I have taken three civil service promotional exams, in my department. The only guy to beat me has been Justin.

Posted by: Ross84

Thanks Dinky I'll look it up.

Dinky doesn't like to share but I do...the seminars are June 17 and another two-day June 23 & 24 at the Westford PD but they are not law seminars like I asked Dinky is a little slow

I figured he was doing law seminars because he put out criminal law onflash cards (awesome by the way). I took out an old exam that Scheft tried to duplicate and Hanrahan's law cards hit just about every question - could have been luck but I was impressed.

After writing out hundreds of flash cards myself I picked up some of Hanrahan's flash cards. I wish I heard about them sooner what a timesaver. this might be the best kept secrete in the promotional business so let's keep it that way until at least until next year.

I did find a couple mistakes in the material though, they were minor but I would still recommend double checking the stuff for yourself. But especially compared to Roger's stuff the material is much better written and put together. I will highly recommend this stuff to others but not until October 22!!!!! This is my year[-o<

Hey, I was just reading the old posts is it true that Scheft is planning on ripping off Hanrahan's idea? I checked Scheft's website and didn't see anything.

Untrue. LED will not be doing flash cards. John does have something new and different coming out that they have been working on for a while.

I also heard that John and Pat ripped off Al Gore's ideas by using the internet.

Just noticed that Scheft won't release the mock exam questions until a course is purchased - this was always a free and printable item. WOW.

I heard he is going to charge for air to breath during his seminars...anyone else hear that?

I hear Hanrahan is giving outlines to the books for free when you go to his seminar. I think Scheft charges for that also...alonmg with the breathable air that is.

Very true, Scheft already copied Hanrahan's "question of the day" idea and began posting questions on his web site, although Scheft makes you sign up for a class before you get any questions. Hanrahan's are FREE to anyone!!! I know for a fact that Scheft told Hanrahan that he would copy his flash card idea and try and put him out of business. Also, if you go to Hanrahan's web site he lists projected salarly increases if you get promoted over a period of time. Scheft just recently started doing the same thing on his web site. I wonder where Scheft got his projected numbers???

Posted by: c269s10

Hey 1Archer, how close are you guys, you sound very close. Is Justin just as good at being a "close friend" as he is at making flash cards?

Posted by: PinkSlip

Aren't you the same guy who said "John has to make flash cards to compete"? Now you say he has no intention of making flash cards...he's working on his new project Which is it? What does he have in store for us? I know - index cards! How original!!! He's a genius!!!

Tell your buddy to stick to his own thing he seems to be doing just fine. This Hanrahan guy seems to have the support of many his fellow officers and everything I hear about his stuff has been very positive.

Hanrahan came to our PD and did a training on handling major incidents, it was the one with the little city and the matchbox cars. I haven't seen his promotion material but the other training was excellent. My buddy bought some of his stuff and hasn't stopped raving about it. Smart guy.

John still doesn't have time to do flash cards. He's putting his time into on-line testing now. Don't tell Al Gore - he might get pissed because he invented the internet first.

I'm sure Justin is a great guy and I'm sure he has great products but anyone who really thinks he invented and patented the idea of selling flashcards isn't exactly going to pass the Mensa entrance exam.

You shouldn't get your undies all bunched up over this - it's not good for you. Instead of sticking your nose in here you should be putting your energy into raising your next test score.

Hey, I heard the leader of Iran said that Iran had been thinking about sending someone to the moon for decades they just haven't gotten around to it. So what's the big deal about the US doing it first? My neighbor also told me that he had a great new concept - fast food cheeseburgers he's been thinking about it for years; and my brother-in-law thought up a new computer concept, you can open up various windows with the click of a hand thingy he's going to call a "gerbal" I had to break the news to him that some guy named Bill Gates already did it - he was devasted. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a cheeseburger today!

Even better than the flash cards are the (Hanrahan) AUDIO Flash Cards. The way I look at it, foret about Hanrahn vs. Scheft vs. Rogers. The more material in the Study Arsenal the better. Although I have to say, Scheft seems to be all about money these days and is losing a step...but that's another conversation.

For 16 years now, I have devoted my professional life to helping police officers of every rank by providing them with the tools they need to get promoted so that they are better able to provide for themselves and their families. To date, I have helped over 900 of you move up in the ranks. Some of you are now Chiefs of Police. I am extremely proud of this work and of the many fine, brave police officers with whom I have had the privilege of working.

Yet, recently, it has come to my attention that certain individuals on this website have been maliciously spreading completely false rumors about me in an effort to undermine my work.

Unlike these individuals, who hide behind names like “Irish cop” and “StickPinQuinn,” I have nothing to hide and choose to respond in the open. My name is John Scheft and, as many of you already know, I am the owner of Law Enforcement Dimensions and a lawyer. Many of you have been students of mine. After all, if you need to know the law to pass a promotional exam, doesn’t it make more sense to go to a lawyer to learn that law than a carpenter or anyone else not trained in the law?

These rumormongers (who don’t even have the courage to identify themselves) would have you believe that I would steal from Justin Hanrahan, a member of the Watertown PD who, ironically, has taken my courses to get promoted! These insinuations are false. To further inflame you, they have tried to play on prejudice by casting their malicious gossip as a case of a “lawyer” versus a “cop”. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

I have worked with Justin and his department in the past, and I know that Justin is working hard to complete his law school education, so it would be silly for him to criticize me for being a lawyer when that is what he aspires to become. I believe that the Justin I know is much too ethical to engage in such mean-spirited attacks and surely understands, through his legal training, that making false statements about someone in an effort to hold them up to public ridicule is unlawful defamation. He also knows that defaming someone in order to gain a competitive advantage over them is considered an unfair method of competition under the Massachusetts Unfair Business Practices Law.

The simple truth is that Justin Hanrahan and I met on two occasions in March of this year to discuss the possibility of his working with Law Enforcement Dimensions to distribute a line of flash cards which he and his wife have worked very hard on. Both times we met, we were alone. Although unable to reach agreement on terms for working together, Justin sent me the following email reply at 12:44 PM on March 14:

Hi John,

Sorry I didn’t get back to you right away…I was in meetings all morning. Thank you for the opportunity. I sincerely hope that nothing that I offer in regards to promotion preparation interferes with the success of your business. I hope we some day have the opportunity to work together. Thanks again.

Justin

My initial email read as follows:

From: john@ledimensions.com [mailto:john@ledimensions.com]
Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 11:54 AM
To: Hanrahan, Justin
Subject: Promotional Matters

Justin, I called the other day and left a message and, after our extensive meetings, I wanted to be sure and close the loop with you. So I figured, at this point, I'd try e-mail.

Based on our conversations and my discussion with my attorney about the practicality of your latest proposal, I decided in the end that it was best for us to just go our separate ways. I think you have a good product, and I wish you luck. Thanks again for meeting with me and considering the various options we explored.

Take care, John

John Sofis Scheft

So much for any “reliable source,” the rumormongers claim to be hearing from.

Justin is selling his flash cards and I am not. I do not sell flash cards. Instead of flash cards, I decided that in this Internet age, it is much more efficient and much easier for you, as students, to use computers and the Internet for training. After all, the computer never gets tired presenting material and it is so much better at shuffling. I give you more questions on the computer than you get in a box of flashcards, and I have the ability to add more questions to the computer database during exam season for my course participants. I invite anyone to check my web site at www.ledimensions.com. You will not find any reference to flash cards.

As I said earlier, I met with Justin Hanrahan in March of this year. Isn’t it interesting that nobody ever heard of “Irish cop” or “StickPinQuinn” on the Masscops website until April of this year? Coincidence? You decide.

Even now, I face the same dilemma faced by every victim of defamation: If you remain silent, some might believe the lies but, if you respond, you give the liars more credibility than they deserve and a stage on which to continue to spread their lies.

For me, the deciding point was a matter of professional reputation. I take pride in the fact that the materials that I provide to officers have a well-deserved reputation for accuracy. However, not content to just lie about my relationship with Justin Hanrahan, StickPinQuinn has falsely stated on this site that I wrote and taught that you report stolen firearms to the Colonel of the State Police rather than the Criminal History Systems Board. That lie undermines my reputation for quality work, which I have devoted years of effort to establishing and maintaining. Those of you who have actually taken my courses already know that this claim is completely false. Just look at page 17-9 of my Criminal Law Station Guide 2006:

Duty to Report Any Loss, Theft or Recovery of Any Gun. G.L. c. 140, § 129C mandates that any loss, theft or recovery of any firearm, rifle, shotgun, or machine gun be reported “forthwith” (i.e., immediately) to the director of the Criminal History Systems Board (CHSB) and the licensing authority. Failure to report shall result in suspension or permanent revocation of the person’s license and, for a 1st offense: Fine NLT $200, NMT $1,000; for a 2nd offense: Fine NLT $1,000, NMT $5,000.

Of course, since StickPinQuinn has not had the guts to identify himself, I have no way of knowing if he was ever a student in any of my courses or bought any of my materials. So, StickPinQuinn, if you want to call me and identify yourself, I will be happy to show you all of my promotional materials over the years. But I don’t expect to hear from you. The kind of person who would anonymously spread lies on a website is the same kind of person who will continue to lie about their instructor to cover up their own failure on a promotional exam.

Frankly, I would prefer to let the matter end here. But rest assured that if the lies continue, it will leave me no choice but to seek relief in the courts to protect me and my business. Through the courts, I will be able to obtain the identities of “Irish cop” and “StickPinQuinn,” and if the court determines that they have defamed me in order to gain an unfair competitive advantage for Justin Hanrahan, they could find themselves liable for punitive damages, attorneys fees and costs. In addition, a court proceeding will expose their unlawful actions.

To the rest of the police officers out there: whether you use my materials or anyone else’s, I wish you the best. I provide the best service I can, and you’ll never hear me badmouth or whine about the competition!

To: Hanrahan, Justin
Subject: Promotional Matters

Justin, I called the other day and left a message and, after our extensive meetings, I wanted to be sure and close the loop with you. So I figured, at this point, I'd try e-mail.

Based on our conversations and my discussion with my attorney about the practicality of your latest proposal, I decided in the end that it was best for us to just go our separate ways. I think you have a good product, and I wish you luck. Thanks again for meeting with me and considering the various options we explored.

Take care, John
