Go to one that is not. They are over rated......

Posted by: Macop

Naw. they are pretty good, we have done well with them, I was just wondering who else had em.

Posted by: j809

MASSCOP has about 2400 members now, they are looking at taking over more PDs. The latest addition was Newburyport, Rowley and MBTA PD.

They better straighten themselves out then... before they start to lose some.

Posted by: j809

Why, what do you hear from other members about MassCop. We had good luck with them and the other surrounding communities have too. They did straighten some of their legal counsel guys out.

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Yimmy-your list omitted CMPSA.....

Posted by: j809

Come on now Dicky, don't insult us like that. You guys still have four members left in MASSCOP.

Posted by: RPD931

I have no gripes about the Attorneys, they seem very caring.

is masscop similar to the mpa ?

Yea what do you mean. My dept is considering going with them. IBPO sucked. This New NEPBA group wants to add everyone to thier ranks. Corrections, crossing gards. Probably mall security next. MassCop sounded good on the surface.

No, masscop is a union. MPA is a group that represents law enforcement intrests.

Posted by: RPD931

I just think MASSCOP seems to have their OWN agenda.

Posted by: Macop

What union doesnt?

Posted by: Blueflu1

We have had good luck with MACOP. When one of our officers got in a shooting, they had an attorney out within an hr or two. I utilized their critical incident number once for another officer involved in a chase with a teenager who crashed and died, and within 10 minutes, I was being called by an attorney, a union rep, and a counsellor. Don't know if they still are that prompt or not.

I think they are better then unions like FOP because they are for Local cops (Local as in all MA cops), not a national organization.

That could have changed lately but my experiences a few years ago were positive.

Posted by: SPINMASS

I thought the FOP was similar to MPA an interest group as opposed to a union?

It is rumored that FOP will be starting to organize in to a union. Im not sure if that is already under way

Posted by: CopUmpire

I find it funny that you say MassCop needs to straighten themselves out before they loose some, can you sight what needs to be straightened out?

Hey RPD31, MassCop does have an agenda to represent police officers. These guy's are Cops that work for Cops. Have you researched there arbirtration wins? Have you researched what they have done in the Statehouse? Come on now do your home work.

Posted by: OutOfManyOne

Agree, MassCop is the best police union for local PDs in this state. Largest too.

Posted by: IrishCop69

I think MassCOP is going in the right direction. They have much improved over the past few years. They seem to be the only union fighting for cops on Beacon Hill. IBPO has fallen apart and actually split into two undesireable unions. I think more departments should join and make our numbers larger. There is a reason the State Police get everything, it's there strength in numbers. The same with firefighters. We need to band together and stand as one to get where we need to be.

Posted by: j809

I agree too many unions out there. MACOP is a very good union and I wish more PDs would join it, however more are forming their own associations instead.

effective tomorrow (1/Feb/07), the Plymouth Police Superior Officers Association will be affiliated w/ MA COP as Local #372.

The President's dinner and Convention in Barnstable are top notch.

The convention is in Hyannis, MA. Which is very well attended.
