Teens partying to raise bail money arrested on drinking charges
PELHAM, N.H. (AP) -- Six teens were arrested over the weekend after police discovered dozens of minors drinking at a party at an American Legion hall that was being held to raise bail money for another teen jailed in Massachusetts.
Police say they discovered the party at the American Legion hall in Pelham on Saturday night when an officer saw four people acting suspiciously in a van outside the building. They say 76 minors were taken into protective custody and six of them were arrested on a variety of charges, including unlawful possession of alcohol, resisting arrest and indecent exposure.
The minors were from New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
"It was chaos," Police St. Michael Pickles said. "Definitely one of the crazier calls I've been on."
Police say they expect they will charge two men who were the hosts.
The woman booked the party room at the Legion was cooperating with police, Pickles said. She was "really hot about the situation," he said. "She said they promised her there would be no drinking."
