WORK LOCATION: Crime Reporting Unit, 450 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA 01702
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:45 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. FULL TIME
SALARY: $ 1,438.80 bi-weekly minimum salary TO $ 2,078.85 bi-weekly maximum salary
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must at least (A) at least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in research or statistical work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.*
II. A Graduate degree may be substituted for the required experience.**Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EDUCATION PREFERRED AT HIRE:
Ability to use personal computer software such as the Excel, Access and statistical gathering software highly preferred; Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the collection of research data; Knowledge and experience in statistical research methods and procedures; Knowledge of the methods, terminology and techniques of statistics including means, medians, modes of standard deviation, binomial coefficients, multiple regression and multivariate analysis; Knowledge of and ability to prepare clear, concise statistical reports, graphs, tables and charts; Knowledge of and experience working with standard police records management systems; Ability to perform job responsibilities independently with little or no supervision;
Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information; Ability to provide training to groups of police; Ability to interact with other employees at all levels of the organizational hierarchy; Ability to gather information by reviewing records and documents;
Ability to gather information by interviewing methods; Ability to maintain accurate records;
Ability to type 30 words per minute.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Verifies, edits and adjusts reports received daily from law enforcement agencies. Contacts all reporting agencies, on an as needed basis to correct errors or mistakes in data submission;
Responds to routine data inquiries from the media, other state offices and the general public;
Conducts research analysis of crime data submitted by State, Local and municipal police departments in order to produce routine and annual reports on crime rates, trends, and patterns;
Works with the Program Manager to evaluate and improve data collection procedures, forms and analysis tools; Prepares written reports and/or drafts of reports for internal use and approval by Unit Director; Trains all temporary clerical personnel in methods and requirements to complete data entry; Works closely with the Unit Director to ensure accurate, timely and complete entry of all necessary data; Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Unit manager.
