Trooper Placements

I was wondering how many new Troopers are placed out on Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. Are they placed at random or are they asked to volunteer? Would a person from either of the islands be placed there automatically?

Nope. Pack your bag and goto Pittsfield.

Aw, it's not THAT bad, some of the kids have only had to go to "A" troop from home in Boston.

Posted by: bbelichick

And some go from Boston to Cheshire.

Posted by: mtc

I guess it depends more on their placement within the class !!

not usually. It just end up that way, regardless of Seniority.

Maybe one of the Staties here can clarify, but it is my understanding that the islands is a "posh" post and are tough to get without ALOT of seniority. But then again, if you don't already own a home there, living there will cost an arm and a leg.

No RPD, though they are a bid post (like any other barracks), the post is only attractive to someone connected to the area, so not neccesarily a seniority issue. Sure, I could bid the post (I have the seniority)...but why? It's a long drive from the Berkshires...

Now Troop F, on the other hand, is wicked senior.

Yet there are some pretty junior young 'uns on the Pike!

Out of curiousity, how is Troop E...is it a bid-only position, or do break-ins get assigned to the Pike?

Posted by: dcs2244

No, there is no field training in Troop E.

Posted by: IceBreaker

As far as New Trooper placements...do they generally try to place you a certain distance from your home?

Posted by: Dane

Exactly 73 miles. ;o)

Fresh out of the academy why would any new recruit want Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard? You would be casing moped inspection stickers and U.S senators driving OUI all day long.

Only if they are commuting. Boots don't go to the Pike.

Sometime about halfway through break-in, the commanders will allow boots to commute with another Trooper. Not neccessarily their FTO, usually just someone who lives nearby.
